Plating I have a bucket full of parts that need to be plated. In case you're interested, upper and lower distributor plates, misc and sundry Zenith parts etc.
Anybody know of a plater that will do the deed via mail or UPS? None of the locals here in Oklahoma seem to be interested in assisting. |
Re: Plating Not any that I know of. Pretty much an all in person operation for zinc/cadmium plating. The places that do it are getting few and far between.

Re: Plating Try Memphis Propeller. They have plated miscellaneous hardware for me.
They will Cad plate white or gold. Gold is really just a dip they use on aircraft hardware as it comes out of plating white. http://memphispropeller.com/services/ |
Re: Plating I had some white cad plating done some time ago - maybe 7 or 8 years ago. I was satisfied with the results. I am sure the minimum order has gone way up. The plating place info is below.

Re: Plating I'm not sure of they deal thru the mail but you can try.
Billmark Plating in North Richland Hills/Ft. Worth, TX, Tim Caraway 817-429-5536. He does zinc and nickel, but not polished. Al's Associates Custom Plating Ft. Worth, TX, James Johnson 817-946-1853. Does nickel, polished and butler, Zinc to I believe. I've dealt with both and they are great people and do nice work. Larry Reeg |
Re: Plating I will second Three J’s plating mentioned above.
Just had a bunch of stuff done there in cadmium, and VERY satisfied with the results. A nice modern shop, run by three sisters, who took over the business from their father. Very knowledgeable, great work, at a fair price. Be sure your parts are clean, prepped, and any polishing work needed is done before you ship it. They are mainly a production shop for new parts, but do a lot of private work also. |

Re: Plating I reached out to Three J's yesterday; hopefully I'll get a response today and will post details.
My car has a lot of original parts, but like most, the plating is long gone. It would be fantastic to get them back to original. |
Re: Plating I've been e-mailing with Angela at Triple J and it's $250 (cash) for about 50 pounds worth of parts (assuming everything can fit in a single drum). An oil pan would be additional, but for the vast majority of the remaining parts that should be Cad plated, it should take care of them.

Re: Plating I would say that if you're plating anything but chrome and Cadmium, try it yourself ! It's not too hard! There are several sites on youtube about it. Basically all you need is the metal being plated, some glass screw top bottles, a battery charger, a jug of muriatic (For cleaning) some vinegar (For plating solutions). There isn't much to it!

Re: Plating Terry, the prep is 90% of the work.
same with painting. |

Re: Plating while we are on the topic of plating- does anyone have a reasonable company for small castings?
|
Re: Plating My commercial experience with plating shops doing Ni Cad, Zn Cad type processing is they all work in large quantities. Their processes usually involve people moving parts to, into, and from the plating lines. They do not like for the most part getting involved with small quantities as they can disrupt operational flow and small quantities tend to get lost.
The kinds of parts you are talking about could be cleaned, buffed to remove rust, and coated with something like Eastwood's Zn Cad paint. Just a thought. |
Re: Plating Try this place:
https://www.customchromeplating.com/ Located in Grafton, OH. We have used them before. They do tons of old school stuff. |
Re: Plating https://www.barrettplating.com/
I have used these folks many times for white zinc. I bring them a five gallon bucket of blasted clean steel parts, and they plate the whole bucket for around $100. Comes out looking like fresh hardware store bolts. I usually save about six months worth of parts and do plating twice a year. They can also hang larger parts that won't fit in the barrel, and the extra charge isn't much. I'm not sure if they like shipping small one-time orders, but give them a call to see. |
