Vent window handles

2 Attachment(s)
Recently I placed an add here under the wanted section, for vent window handles for my 1953 Mercury convertible.

I know the ones I received are wrong, since they do not have the offset needed for the 2 door hardtop and convertible.

I also noticed that the ones I retrieved also have a "T" shaped button. Does anyone know what these would have been used on?

Was that the design, used on the 2 door and 4 door post cars, or trucks or for earlier cars?

Maybe a 1948 1949 1950 FORD TRUCK VENT WINDOW HANDLE, except it has the offset.

or a 1949 1950 51 Ford:

A little better pictures showing the offset on the 2 door hardtop and convertible handle. Along with what is needed to install the handle.

This is just for reference showing '51 Merc. latch.
The tooth of the latch stands off the glass appox. 1/4" to engage the vertical window channel. ( this handle I suspect would be the same on all 2 door and 4 door vehicles with the only difference being some aesthetic features.)

Re: Vent window handles

The back of the tooth, on the latch, is parallel with the back of the button housing, whereas the 2 door hardtops and the convertibles are another 1/4" away from the bottom of the button housing.

This is going to be a challenge to say the least.

The search continues, but at least now I know what I am looking for.

Re: Vent window handles

The ones for a ‘53 Ford look a lot like the pictures of what you need style wise. But you say the offset is wrong? I have a whole box of ‘53 Ford vent window parts if you think anything is interchangeable.

Any chance you could e-mail me a few pictures of the ones you have?

Then easiest way to tell is it is incorrect, is if you set the handle on a flat surface, as shown in the picture and there is no off set (gap) between the surface and the handle tooth (see arrow), it is the wrong one. for 2 door hardtops and convertibles.

The last pictures shows the one on the left, with the gap (the correct one for the 2 door hardtops and convertible - the ones I am looking for) and the one on the right with no gap.

Thank you,

The ones I have seem to have a small gap. But maybe not as much as the one in your pic.

Thank you. Unfortunately I think yours are for the 2 door and 4 door, post cars.

The gap in mine is 1/4", for the convertible.

Thanks again,

Merc Cruzer
