Import Broker Recommendation

I am importing a Model A from Canada, from what I understand if the owner is not with the car when it crosses the boarder a broker is required. Has anyone had experience importing a car for personal use from Canada? If a broker is really needed would prefer one with antique car experience. I am getting conflicting answers when speaking with customs on this issue. Thanks in advance on this issue.

Would you not be able to "cross" the border and bring it back yourself if the paperwork was in order??

Paul, thank you for your response.

Unfortunately the car is on the west coast of Canada and I am on the east coast of the US. Logistically, I will not be able to be with the car during the transport process. I am having a friend transport it for me.

A lot of it depends on the personnel at the border crossing, how gung-ho or laid back they are.

That is what we are discovering. I think by calling customs and asking the question the easiest answer is to call a broker. In all cases the initial person we speak to has to ask their manager. Because the car is over 25 years old there is not EPA or safety requirements and the forms are straight forward. Additionally with NAFTA, because the car was manufactured in Canada there should be no duty. No one at customs is willing to say that over the phone.

Ck out Hemmings Magazine. I know they list appraisers, maybe importers. Could also try MAFCA or the EV8 Club.

Is AAA a resource? They can sometimes help with registration, plates, title, etc. issues.
