1935 Coupe help
 

I am looking at a 1935 Ford 5 window. It's is said to be a model 48 (770 DeLuxe). I will attempt to attach photos. Can you help me find the original color? Also what is a value you'd place on it? It is in quite good shape. Black exterior. Correct tan cloth interior. Maroon dash. I could not verify the serial number in any location but the registration states: 181758782. The wheels are now black but are showing green underneath. I notices many black coupes for sale have green wheels, can someone e lighten me. I'm a truck guy but always eager to learn!

It appears to be a Standard to me. Painted grille,painted windshield frame,single horn and trunk. Low to Mid $20K $ ?

It is a standard grill and windshield, nicely restored. my guess is 20 to 30 depending on mechanicals.

Obviously has the wrong heater in it. The frame # is on the top of the left frame rail near the steering box. should compare with the # on the ownership certificate.

Std with some add ons like road lights front and rear, which are not period correct. Dash waterfall is 36, heater much later. Looks like a nice car! 35 steering wheel has humps about every inch or so, making it very unusual and sort of rare. Your wheel is covered maybe to cover some cracks which are very usual. The horn should have more black paint and less chrome. others have covered prices.

If the original serial number is indeed 18-1758782 it would indicate April 1935 I believe. As someone else said, check top of frame near the steering box.

A large factor in valuation is engine condition. Work needed there can get very expensive very fast.

Thanks you everyone! So consensus is it is not a Deluxe? The maroon dash and tan interior appear deluxe. The green wheels with black were a deluxe option weren't they? Correct there is no rumble seat, did this only come on Deluxe models? The windshield trim and grille surround seem they were painted. Maybe originally a deluxe but painted? The VIN indicated American vehicle as no C at the start, but the cylinder heads are stamped Canadian, indicating not matching. Aftermarket signals were added. What is the single yellow light at the rear? a reverse lamp? How do I differentiate the dash waterfalls?

Fast54, Those are all valid questions, but all are of secondary importance to the question of valid title to the car. Check the numbers and take a walk if they don’t match.

If you do get the car the V8 club restoration book will be of great importance since it can answer many questions. Check the club web site.

As ALL (AND all very knowledgeable gentlemen) have posted AND by all "major" indicators....This is a "Standard" 35 Ford Coupe. To answer your question with a question:

WHY would some one want to make a "Deluxe" coupe into a "Standard" coupe AND "IF" they did.....go to the lengths to "hide" most of the "deluxe" features and NOT hide other???


Besides painting the grill and windshield frames they would have had to "fill" the hole in the right front fender for the right horn AND fill the holes for the right rear taillight OR replace both fenders with standards.



Another tell tail sign of a "Standard" Vs "Deluxe" is look at your speedometer. IF the trip meter is a 3 digit instead of a 4 digit.....ALSO a "Standard" feature.


The production "odds" that this is a Standard are also very high with over 2 to 1 5 window coupes produced were Standards - 75,914 to 30,832 produced.



As to the wheel color....Standard coupes painted black had black wheels and a bright apple green pin stripe. Apple green wheels "could have been ordered for an extra fee BUT not a "combo" of both SO "IF" you are seeking "original" as Henry built it, its one or the other.

35 dash waterfall.Single yellow light at the rear is an add on and appears to be a front fog light originally.These cars did not have a reverse light.

If it was me I would go over this car with a fine tooth comb, I would be looking for rust in the floor pan and check the panel below the trunk and behind the spare tire panel. The panel is very prone to rust out. If this is your first potential purchase of an old Ford take a knowledgeable person with you that knows old V-8 Fords. They will see things that you will miss.
