'40 rear backing plate E brake

Can you buy the E brake tube that the E brake cable goes through on the rear backing plate somewhere ? Prefer NOS or good used originals. Thank you Fordbarners.

Not that I am aware of.
However, you can purchase the exact this wall tube from McMaster-Carr (quite reasonable) and make a coupe rather easily.

Don't think replacement tubes were provided by Ford.

If originals are needed; lots of backing plates with good tubes are still around.

Other options.

Clings sells new replacements.

Tubes are easy to make out of 1/2" tube.

MT Products includes new E Brake tubes with their rear backing plates.
Perhaps they would sell you a pair separate from the backing plate without having to buy the backing plate. You could then cut them to fit. Worth a try.

Thank you. I figured I could make them from tube, and weld them in, but the "flare" at the end to retain the rubber seal might by a challenge.

When I make the tubes; I cut them to length, bend them, flare them, flatten and slip a 1/2" lock washer over them, braze it in place, and sand the washer down to reduce the diameter. Not 100% stock looking; but once the boot is on, works ok.

Looks like Rich hit a home run. Do it his way.

The e-brake cable tube is available from MT Products (http://www.bolingbrothers.com/).
They were also listed in Bob Drake's catalog not too long ago.
