radio repair? I'd like some references of a reputable person to refresh my '40 radio.
I've heard way too many horror stories of rip of artists that "rebuild" radios. The guy that worked on mine for 40+ years passed away. I miss him the most. Still, I miss his talents and integrity. |
Re: radio repair? Kube,
I've been emailing Joe Dickhudt of Classic Auto Electric about my 1940 Zenith. He can repair it as built or modify it as an FM. I haven’t sent it out yet but will soon. Here’s his email: joe.dickhudt@classicautoelectric. Shoot him a note with your questions. I'll send my radio soon to get ahead of you... Hunt |

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-18484754336142_2171_0 We offer electrical products and services for classic automobiles from the Model A of the 1930's to the muscle cars of the 1960's. We specialize in the repair and restoration of classic electrical automotive systems and components, and offer "modern technology" where special solutions (like the Clock Tender) may be appropriate to solving long-term electrical problems, or where it might be nice to have the benefit of modern technology without sacrificing the authenticity of your classic car (like the AM Gizmo). |

I tried them, still waiting for them to reply to my emails from months ago , perhaps they don't want to deal internationally . Gary Tayman has my 34 Ashtray radio and I am impressed by his knowledge , how he is keeping me in the loop and his reputation /feedback -Karl |
Re: radio repair? Karl,
If you're having trouble getting your radio repaired, here in the UK I have used Colin at Agenta radio repairs. He is brilliant and reasonably priced. His number is 0113 8800 303 (from the UK). He repaired my HMV valve radio in my 1956 Aston Martin DB2/4 |
Re: radio repair? I used Classic Auto Electric for my ‘50 clock. I was very pleased with his work, communication and his fee was exactly what he quoted. I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again.......Mark

Re: radio repair? I had the "Wonderbar" radio in my '47 converted to AM/FM years ago. The bar now switches between AM & FM. the outward appearance is unchanged. FM is particularly important, as it avoids the ignition static, and for the most part, the rattle and bang of much of the "modern" music, for us old coots.

Re: radio repair? One my best old fiends (passed now) restored his 54 Merc to exact original condition. 8 years of tedious work/pleasure. Anyway he sent his radio to a fellow down south for restoration. The fellow called when it was done and proudly announced he could pick up Raleigh clear as a bell.
Sure enough it worked just great up here in Massachusetts. So he called the guy to let him know he was happy. The only problem was that he could not pick up Raleigh!!:D True story John |
Re: radio repair? You might want to ask any local HAM radio guys in your area if they might work on it. A local young HAM operator in my area helped me get my '50 Ford OMF radio going. His price for the repair - a lunch at the local diner.

Re: radio repair? I had a guy in Florida modify mine. AM/FM and external input.
