overheating I know I have seen many post on overheating and some plugged radiator or blown head gasket. Mine started with 50/50 antifreeze foaming. Engine didn't heat that bad but had to add close to quart of water. I drained and flushed all antifreeze out filled back with water only. Drove about 40 miles no foam but still lost some water. Today I went about 5 miles no overheating set about 3 hours drove back and real overheated engine smoking. Cooled down and had to add 1 1/2 gallons. While adding the petcock was dripping some as it wasn't completely off. Closed that and watched water flow in radiator top. seemed to be flowing good but as it warmed up I noticed some bubbles. now I think the head gasket may have got to hot with the foaming antifreeze. Will cool down. and retorque whats everyones ideas. Oh I forgot when flushing there were some chunks of rust on top of the tubes had to come from engine so I got those out . 1929 Roadster

Re: overheating Although some antifreeze products are more prone to foaming, I will go with Ruth on this one. I believe that you are due for a head gasket replacement. Read all the postings on the Barn about replacing head gaskets.
Re torquing the head is a maintenance thing and should be done once a year or so depending on how much driving you do and how recent the head gasket was replaced. |
Re: overheating Next time you get it warm, take the cap off and lug it in third gear. If you see bubbles, it is your head gasket or worse. Good luck.

Re: overheating If you're replacing the head gasket it would be a good time to upgrade to a high compression head, if'n you don't already have one. Don't ask.
