December, 1927 Introduction Mystery
 

The attached image appeared recently on the HAMB historic photos thread. I believe it's a shot of a 1928 Tudor being removed from a hotel ballroom after the "New Ford's" introduction gala. I say "after" because the Tudor is not under wraps. The men's clothing and the radiator cover on the vehicle on the right are consistent with cold weather... not LA or any other southern US city. The Beardmore truck, the vehicle on the right, and the Tudor are all LH drive (and, yes, some poor soul is steering the Tudor!). I can find no reference anywhere to a Beardmore firm of truckers/riggers. Here's the rub... that's not the Waldorf Hotel, so it's not NY. Where is it?

Can't Id the location, but as a bit of irony, that Tudor is being loaded onto the back of a GMC. :D

Looks like the old Beardmore Hotel, Clydebank, Scotland UK but not consistent with the LH drive.

It may be the original Astor Hotel, which was coupled with the adjacent Waldorf Hotel. It occupied the site of the current Empire State Building until 1929 when the current Waldorf Astoria was built.

One of the architectural details on the building are repeating rams' heads above/in-between the windows on that second story (where the car is coming out)...

Truck could be from Beardmore Chev in Omaha NE. They have been in business since 1919.

First two cities I did searches on....looked at every bld on every site that I brought up, with those architectural items ...... nothing.

Eyes are hurting, hope someone finds it.

I didn't come across one. I was up til 1am and searched vintage photos from all the major cities from that time. Quite a few were taken from a far distance and some were on postcards. None jived with the thread photo.

I searched every avenue of subjects.

I wish good luck to the person who finds it. I think it will come down to someone actually knowing the bld and where it is.

I do not know where this is but fyi in new york new Ford's were introduced at the Parklane Hotel as my Dad was the ford motor company's man on the job there. bcoke

Roosevelt Hotel, Manhattan!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From photos, it has change it's outward appearance some but......it looks like the real deal.
