Value of a 1940...
 

I am sure this has been tossed around a bit before but I have not had a need to know it until now. I am considering purchasing a 1940 2 door sedan deluxe that has been fully restored.

How does one find out what the value of something like this would be?

Now I understand that the word "restored" can mean a lot of things so I am guessing that there are some guidelines for this also.

I would suggest $10-$15K for a decent correctly restored driver. Much more if it's a 100 point restoration. The prices of these cars is not what they used to be. Here's a start.

Take someone with you who "knows" 1940 Fords. For example, here's one that you should not consider unless you want to dump a ton of money in for a correct restoration.

Notice: This car has not been restored correctly. Needs a total restoration.
It's a mess. No heater and many missing parts. Wrong interior. The ad is very "puffy" and misleading to an unsuspecting buyer looking for an original car.
Not worth anywhere near the asking price. You are better off buying one already restored correctly with good paint, chrome, interior, engine and drive train unless you desire a project.
Make sure your car has a matching numbers title, also. Provenance would be assuring.
I am sure there are other Fordbarn 40 Ford owners who can offer excellent opinions.

Look around. This style, while very practical and great for a family, is not the most desirable body style. Prices have come done a bit for cars like this.

My advice, shop around and have cash ready to jump on a good deal.

IF you have pictures of the one you are looking at, you could always post them here, there are "several" qualified eyes on here for advice.....AND the asking price as well, you will find what you want to know, quickly!!!! I will also say there are a few here that when "they" speak on a 1940 its everything you will want to know from extremely knowledgeable minds on 1940 Fords

Wear your coveralls and take your flashlight under the car and look carefully at the frame, especially at the kickups in the rear, at the intersection of the X member, and the rear frame sections. The floorboards and trunk from underneath. "The truth does not reveal itself to idle spectators". Find a nearby EV8 member in the directory who owns a '40, pick his or her brain, if ask them to come along for the ride.

I like the patched up wiring harness waiting to catch fire with the butt splices , tape and wire nut.

the lack of the fuel flex hose or is that the rare delete version? They took the fuel line retainer clamp off and managed to bent the line over enough to screw it direct to the pump
