headlights & cowl lights on at same time

When I turn the headlights on the cowls are also on. There seems to be just a high beam even when I switch to low beam. Basically all the light are on when I move the headlight/ cowl light switch. But the taillights never go on but the brake lights work. Where does one begin to unravel this ? Thanks for any help.

Re: alllightson

I'd start with the light sw assy located at bottom of steering column. Drop it down and see how much oil/grease is on the contacts.

Does the wiring harness look stock/standard? Wiring is one of those things that can be changed a zillion ways.

This thread will be unsearchable for further use with the title that way

Also, if you list your location it will help find someone close to you that can help. Check the headlight switch for proper installation, and also check the headlamp sockets on the bottom of the shell. Sometimes the terminals fit loose and touch each other.

Re: alllightson

In response to my ''jibberish'' threads. In my response(#7) I apologized for posting a thread that was confusing. I stated that I was unaware that this was wrong. I also thanked
the members that brought the problem to my attention.
To those whose reactions might be considered less than genteel, let me make it clear. The questions I ask on this forum are always serious and thoughtful and that is what I consider this forum to be as well. I would never deliberately be disrespectful to other members nor intentionally title threads in such a manner as to render them useless.
Mea culpa(for the last time)

I think you have to "go advanced" and then hit "edit" to change the title.

Re: alllightson

Lakeside, have you been able to fix your lighting problem yet?
If not, once this thread is started, I don't believe you can change the title.
So, I'm going to suggest that you start a "new" thread about your all lights on issue.
I may not have an answer for you myself, but many of our fellow barners should be able to
Shine a Light on your problem.
Lets help this guy out. :). Jeff

Yes, you can edit the title.
Click 'edit', then 'advanced'.

Re: alllightson

Thanks to those with all the helpful suggestions. I did change the title to...''headlight & cowl lights on at same time''. This weekend I will remove the light switch body and see what sense can be made of it.I'm sure it's the original wiring in there.

Re: headlights & cowl lights on at same time

Well I see the new thread title.
And now I know the thread can be changed.
I learn something new everyday.:)
Now....let's fix this car! Jeff
