Re: howells sheet metal With his record/reputation I'm surprised ebay still lets him sell. He is the poster child for how NOT to run a business. I waited 6 weeks on 28 cab corners(reported to be in stock). Multiple attempts to email and call with no response finally filed a complaint with eBay and paypal and received a refund with a nasty gram from him. My suggestion is don't walk away RUN!

Re: howells sheet metal THAT's not good!!!:eek:

Re: howells sheet metal Yes , I purchased from a dealer & their advert says an exact copy of originals, Had we known they were from Howells might have repaired originals & still might have too. I bet a stirrfry would have done them right ???

Re: howells sheet metal I'd order right from snyders or macs, that way you know if they are in stock. I bought my parts from snyders and they came in good time. I would rather spend a little extra to have a good customer service and have them in good time

Re: howells sheet metal -and so much for the "good old made-in-America" canard that circulates in the Barn.

Re: howells sheet metal Any time you order sheetmetal patches. There will be some work involved. I've never seen one perfect. Try making patch panels. You don't need all the fancy machines to make model a stuff.
|
Re: howells sheet metal I ordered from Howells back in the early '70's. Didn't hear for around 6 months and finally got through to him on the 'phone. "Haven't made those parts yet" he said. "Send me my money back" I said. He did. Guess he hasn't improved any since. Ned

Re: howells sheet metal A search here will show that one should not deal directly with them but rather buy their good through another vendor.

Re: howells sheet metal Rusty likes them so much I think he was going to buy stock in the company.:D:p ......well, maybe not!
The only thing I bought from them was a pair of engine pans, and they look like they were cut out using a pair of dull tim snips. |
Re: howells sheet metal Quote:
As far as customer service goes if you can wait 6 months to a year for your parts your good to go. Otherwise buy them somewhere else. And if the part shows up damaged....just forget about a refund. It won't happen as they don't answer the phone. This is probably the worst business model I have ever seen. Now if you live in or around Beaumont Texas and can pick up your parts I would probably buy from them but never again on the internet site. |
Re: howells sheet metal But why do they tell you in stock will ship the next day? they have our money, than when after many tries someone picked up the phone and gave us a dummy tracking number.

Re: howells sheet metal Real funny Tom! I have expressed my attitude about Howell's many times here on Fordbarn. Lets just say that if Howell's were the last company on earth, I still wouldn't buy anything from them. They deserve the F rating for customer service and the poor quality of most of their items from the BBB. The most pathetic item I bought from Bratton's unfortunately without asking who made it, was the stiffening channel that clamps together the upper and lower rear panels of a 28/29 CCPU. It was $10 and not worth even close to that price. It was formed terribly wrong and was made out of 3 or 4 gauges of thinner metal than the original. Bratton's, with my urging, decided to have the correct stiffener made. Bratton's sent me one and it was perfect in every way. I have recently found that Ahooga Reproduction Parts in Ohio (they were at the MARC meet in French Lick this year) are making a lot of patch panel and other model A items (mostly sheetmetal parts) and all or nearly all are die stamped, not roll formed like the crappy Howell's parts.

Re: howells sheet metal Nothing wrong with harbor freight , as long as you know what your buying, its not snap on . but still a great place to shop. and yes harbor freight stands behind there stuff, took things back ,no problem.

Re: howells sheet metal I ordered a 1915 rear seat frame through Model T Bob in Rockford, Illinois a couple years ago. It was supposed to be drop shipped to me directly from Howell. After 8 weeks and several calls down to Texas, I gave up and Bob refunded me the money. Ended up patching my old seat frame. Never send Howell money directly. Work through a reputable dealer like Snyder or Bratton. I honestly don't know how Howell can stay in business. Worst service on the planet.
