50 Car Heater Water Valve?
 

What all is in this thing? I'm going thru a 50 coupe which sat in the trees for decades. Got lucky on the heater core, seems to be okay. But that valve leaks, and when I looked at it I decided maybe it wouldn't be all that smart to pull it apart. Haven't looked for a replacement yet but I do have a bucket of copper fittings and ball valves.

It is a temperature control/shut off valve that is generally connected to the lever controls on the dash.
Yes, any manner of shutoff can be installed in it's place but it would eliminate the use of the controls on the dash.

"leon bee" - I have one of those I took out of a low mileage wrecked '50 Ford I parted out years ago. If you can wait until I get back to Minnesota in May, I'll send it to you for the shipping charges. You probably won't need it by then, though.:rolleyes:

I think Ford pickups from the ‘70’s used a cable controlled shut off in the heater hose going to the core. You could adapt a longer cable and still use the dash mounted temperature control.........Mark
PS.....you can search threads by Old Henry.....I think he used one on his car....maybe a part # in the thread.

There was a guy who advertised in Hemmings in the "Services Offered" section who rebuilt heater control valves. I had him do the one on my '51 probably 15+ years ago and it was great work. May still be out there.

Thanks everybody. It helped me realize that the complexity of this piece is just so you got fingertip control up on the dash.

You better wait till the snow melts! I should have mentioned for everybody that Shoebox seems to have rebuilt ones.
