A lot depends on why the head was removed.
First - I would try to free up the motor.
Follow the instructions on freeing up a stuck motor that are listed in a few threads on this site and take your time.
You might find out that it is OK or that it can be rebuilt with a little effort.

Best advice I can give is look up a Model A club near you. Seek help there before buying anything.

Does the serial number of the engine in the car match the title---- originally the engine number was the car number

How much money do you want to spend. Are you looking to have your engine rebuilt, or just buy a rebuilt one. Here are some examples from Berts Model A in Colorado. You will need a machine shop nearby that actually knows Model A's. Looking for babbet or insert for mains and rods?
Lot's of questions that you will need to answer before you jump in to this project.

Thank You for your prompt responses:

Head was removed to dry our cylinders, after noted rough running, head was not tightened sufficiently, and appears radiator water migrated past head gasket. Left to air dry, and fifty years passed. Was running albeit roughly before this, no apparent cracks in block etc. Will research how to "unstick" engine via this site, and refer to person with car, if appropriate. I continue wishing to rebuild vice replace the engine, if at all possible. Currently reside in Southeast Idaho, nearest Model A club approximately 80 miles from here, will contact them. Where is the serial number on engine, have not been able to read the little metal plate on upper engine firewall, most recent registration (California, circa 1965) does have serial number, I will look at the firewall plate in sunlight vice garage light, and may be able to discern something. Thank you for replacement engine/parts site, I am sure that I will be using it. Thank you again for your responses.

The "engine"number is originally stamped on the block above the water inlet on a boss near the head gasket
The engine number was also stamped on the frame rail , then body installed over it, those were the only places originally stamped

The plate on the firewall is most likely the patent data plate, no useful information.

If you need a rebuilt engine, due to your's not being rebuildable for some reason, then Bert's is probably the closest to you, and I'd say they do good engines. 800-321-1931

I have found plenty of used running engines in the 250-500. range on craigslist. you might want to buy one, swap it out until you have yours rebuilt- which can take some time.
then you will not be in a rush and can enjoy your car.

Good Evening...It is best to start with the club closest to you. They will have someone who works on their engines. They will be able to tell you what is what after removing the oil pan, main and rod bolts and removing the valve train cover. A used but happy engine from a known source can also be a good value decision...Ernie in Arizona
