Rear Hubs Insert and Smaller Wheel bearing Some time ago I saw an insert collar that you pressed into the rear brake drum hub that used a smaller wheel bearing when the hub showed wear. Any suggestions where I may have seen them. I searched the parts suppliers to no avail.

Re: Rear Hubs Insert and Smaller Wheel bearing Fixes the hub wear, but not the axle housing wear. That repair is a machine operation to install a sleeve.

Re: Rear Hubs Insert and Smaller Wheel bearing Do you have to machine the hub to fit the sleeve?

Re: Rear Hubs Insert and Smaller Wheel bearing No but a press helps install and hold till the sleeve lock sets up. Snyders has them too. Don't forget to check the underside of the race on the axle tube. Does not do much good to install them if that area needs attention too.

Re: Rear Hubs Insert and Smaller Wheel bearing I don't have any experience with the hub sleeves but I do with the ones that go on the axle housing. Many of those are too soft. I suggest having them tested for hardness before installation and re treating if neccessary. I also believe that with new sleeves inside and out and new rollers, they are often too tight and thus overheat. Some of what I have just said is second hand info but for all the work involved, it might be worth taking into account.
On my latest rear end, I went the new hubs, axle housing sleeve (checked and hardness OK) and a decent set of rollers route. |
Re: Rear Hubs Insert and Smaller Wheel bearing Thanks Gentlemen, part on order. The axles are good.
