value of shocks Anybody have an answer to the value of four working shock absorbers. All the markings of original Ford shocks on cover. Actually they are Houdille, I think that is almost the right spelling. The casting has Chicago machine on he back. The base casting is brass. Good working condition. Installed but nevrer put to use. I am removing them to install tube shocks on the woody in progress.

Re: value of shocks Depends on the buyer. Someone looking for fine point correct ones would pay more then someone just looking for any old set for a car. I don't have my laptop handy but the brass base and Chicago machine has me scratching by head.

Re: value of shocks If they are used, I would price them at 350.
Pretty sure you know what the new ones go for. |
Re: value of shocks Good set of working shock with arms and links, not greasy or rusty $450 all day long.
Clean, good paint,no leaks with original arms (Ford Script on arms) $800 Restored show condition $1250 up. This is what I've sold them for at Hershey. I usually get my hands on 1 set a year. |
Re: value of shocks There were some threads about these a while back I thin, mostly negative. I believe they are not re-buildable and there were other problems.

Re: value of shocks Seemingly 1960s-1970s reproductions, possibly using earlier parts from worn-out shocks?
See https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=247728&highlight=brass+shocks https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=181257&highlight=brass+shocks In first thread they went in the trash. Joe K |
Re: value of shocks Contact John Holland. When I had mine rebuilt by him, I believe he said the ones with Chicago were not very good, and not rebuildable.

Re: value of shocks Years ago "Pete in Chicago" sold an inexpensive shock that became unpopular when folks found out they had different internals and were not rebuildable.

Re: value of shocks What barnstuff said. Pete the vendor shocks have brass bases. You can put them on a car just to look at, but they probably won't won't work.

Re: value of shocks Banstuf got it
They were not good when new.(no pressure and leaked right away) I remember Pete the Vendor marketing those around many years ago!! |
