rear view cameras As you that drive a '40 coupe know, you can't see squat out the back. Anyone have ideas that have worked for you ? I was thinking of a rear view camera, but the installer says there is nothing out there for a 6 volt + ground system. Thank you Fordbarners.

Re: rear view cameras A "converter" that changes 6V to 12V.
Looking into something so I can run my tach. Paul in CT |
Re: rear view cameras They do make a converter that will give you 12 volts to run the camera.

Re: rear view cameras Will be watching this thread as to how you go about hiding / disgusting the camera and screen.

Re: rear view cameras I have seen a Bluetooth battery powered camera that mounts to your license plate someplace. Don’t know how often it might need charging?

Re: rear view cameras You can get a step up converter board on Ebay for around $5 shipping included. Here is an example.
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/DC-DC-Digita...item4d8fd6304a I use them in all my antiques and they work pretty good although you end up replacing them every so often so buy an extra. I always put in a cigarette lighter outlet which is really cheap as well. That way you can charge your phone etc. on tours and run a dash camera. Just disguise it or put it in a hidden spot. |
Re: rear view cameras The cheap converters are usually lacking 2 things enough heatsinking and an isolation transformer.
The lack of the transformer means that they will be 12v Pos ground...so even if you get the cables right on a modern radio as soon as the metal case hits the dash sparks start flying and it shorts out...since - is now hitting the grounded + dash... I use them to both for Dropping and boosting just be aware of what you are buying...the ones with isolation between input-output has a higher parts count and cost more... |
