A defective battery will not provide enough voltage to run the ignition and the starter. Once the starter is off the voltage goes up and the coil fires before the engine stops turning over. Clip a meter to one of the nuts on the terminal block and measure the voltage with and without the starter running, should be only a small amount of difference. |
Re: No start Did you modify the wiring by adding a resister that is bypassed when starting? If the answer is yes check the resister and the connections to it.

Re: No start No sir I did not. However my battery shut off is on the firewall and all the electrics is on the starter side of the switch. I realize it should be on the ground cable but it was that way when I got the car

Re: No start Check the polarity of the coil, usually will work either way but better if correct.

Re: No start I second the weak ground theory

Re: No start It could also be the battery shut off switch is deteriorating.

Re: No start Do you have modern wireless distributor plates? I had the wireless Nurex plates, sometimes was hard to start amongst other symptoms. Finally replaced with original design plates and all issues were solved.
