Timing cover alignment tool's...

8 Attachment(s)
Well as Paul Harvey used to say, "here is the rest of the story". Got the timer tool from Mr Gene French today and compared the cover alignment using his version and the T3009-T from Texas T parts (first picture of both, then each one in my front cover second and third pictures).

From the other pictures posted the top and right side bolts equally lined up with both tools used and the bottom bolts on either side centered on the crankshaft equally @ 1 5/16" what I suspected would happen.

So... from what I have determined today between the tool's is it's really personal preference as the same cam/cover alignment were the same. I like both tools with the Texas T easier to grab but the knurling on the outside of Gene's tool helps as it is shorter to grab.

Thanks Steve for the tip on Gene's alignment tool, I also had a great conversation with him about pouring babbitt and ordering his main bearing line bore unit this fall.

Great follow-up !

The "logic" in the difference is that the small tool indexes on the cover seal recess whereas the larger tool indexes directly where the commutator/distributor body actually fits concentric to the camshaft resulting in a true contact.
