Difficult selling on barn?
 

Why is it so difficult to sell good used parts on the barn? Anyone else experienced this?

Do not know about here but can hardly give away good parts on feebay.

eBay is really a tough sell, you almost have to give parts away there..

I forgot to add "feebay". Gets you coming and going.... You better know what you're doing when you list something on there....

I've sold a few things in the swap meet section, but it's been over a few years. Mostly carburetors.

I've listed a fair amounts of parts for sale, mostly in the late section, with very few sales. I think it's kind of an ole boys thing - if you haven't been on forever people are leery of buying from you.

I stopped selling on eBay over 20 years ago, got tired of the scammers, lo-ballers, increasing fees and BS. I've bought stuff on there, ended up with unusable junk and found out it's not worth the hassle of trying to get a refund. Many honest sellers suffer because of a few a**es whose only intent is to rip others off.

I've sold a few things here, but they were rare parts in good condition. I've listed many more items that went begging. If people don't need the part you are offering at that time, it will roll back to the second and subsequent pages.
I suspect I am one of only a few who regularly looks at the for sale and wanted listings (so I don't need to look at the second page of listings).
I prefer the fordbarn swap meet to any other medium, especially e-pay. I quit selling there about 15 years ago.

you have to stay sharp on ebay.half of the time they dont know what they have.i havent seen to much being given away.

After u get ripped off a time or two, it is hard to trust a seller you do not know personally.

Since joining I've bought and sold a lot of parts on the Barn and HAMB with mainly positive results. I've sold a flathead and trans to Australia, a Y block to Finland as well as many other parts stateside. I once sold an o/d trans for a Merc flathead and my bank lost the check after I had already shipped the trans. The member I sold it to could have blown me off when I explained the problem but he sent me another check minus the check cancellation fee. Recently I bought a speedo lens for my Ranch Wagon from a Barner at a fair price. My only complaint is when I respond to a wanted ad and the poster never bothers to respond for whatever reason.

Not everyone in the world is out to rip you off! We've all been had a couple of times! I would like to think that the " barn" has some pretty upstanding guys. At least the guys I've dealt with so far have been straight up.... Just because you don't know someone personally, doesn't mean they can't be trusted...

Price can be a factor.
Is the part you're selling needed by someone looking at the for sale ads?
I've bought and sold hundreds of parts on the Barn and never had a problem.
I've sent parts for the purchaser to test fit and pay if it's what they need.
They have always paid.
I have learned to get a good current picture of the part I'm buying or I may not be happy with it.
I think the folks on this forum are a cut above and are mostly honorable people.

I could see you and I don't share the same opinions!so it's probably best you keep yours to yourself and I'll keep mine to myself... There's too many other nice guys on here..

I have been trying to sell on here for years. All good quality stuff. I didn't save any junk, or swap meet cast-offs. I have sold very little. Repeat VERY LITTLE. Selling on e-pay is fine, if you want to give them 30% of the sell off the top, and sell it for their "recommended" price, then ship it for their idea of the shipping cost, then have the guy "reject" the part, and have them pull the money out of your account. Now the part is gone, and so is your money.
At my age, I am trying to get rid of everything, so my wife isn't saddled with this chore. At least I have a friend who hauls junk for a sideline, and he has a big grin every time I invite him to my house. Much primo stuff has been scrapped, including NOS stuff.
As for the guy who thinks everyone is a ripoff artist, it's a buyer beware thing, just like everything else. Ever bought a brand new car, and a few days later you realized it didn't match up to the TV commercials?
How about buying chinese reproduction parts? Can you say ANYTHING good about that?

What it really boils down to is:
1. Someone needs what you have for sale.
2. Your asking price is what someone will pay for it.
If it doesn't sell then either no one needs it or its priced too high.


Plus....shipping now days is so high that a lot of times, shipping is more than the part and a lot of people are not willing to pay more for shipping than for the part.

Men -- he is a GREAT guy -- we made it happen, and we are now friends for life!!!!!

That is the way it is supposed to be!!! Of course, this is 2019, and it doesn't necessarily go like that 100 % of the time like it used to ----- but, it still boils down to
If it is the right part and the right price, these forums are still great for meeting good and great people, conversing, and making it happen......
