Wow! Two people must have fell in Love with it!
I think the color combo is Horrible!
Twice the figure I'd value it at.

A great write off if you own a towing company.

Theres plenty of odd things about it engine compartment alone. I dont mind the red/green combo and kinda like it as a service vehicle scheme but not THAT color green...

2 questions i have -

i havent seen the modern plug setup with the factory style distributor body before. Is that an old repo or aftermarket item?

Would they really use a standard model A as a wrecker? I couldnt imagine that towing a big car of that era

Neat idea and looks kinda cool though. Im with whomever up there said people got into a bidding war as no way it should have reached that otherwise.

Just curious as to what a true fine points award winning Model A goes for?

Great way to advertise your towing business in parades and car shows.

Re: Mecum $55k Model A

The cost would be more than that.

Winning bid-----------------------------------------$55,000
Bid premium 10%------------------------------------$5500
State sales tax (Illinois other states vary) 5%------$2750
Enclosed transport to say, Illinois from Fl.-----------$1500
______
$64,750

Throw in motel/food/gas/wear and tear on your car and you are north of
$65,000

Yeah, one expensive incorrect Model A. Wish I had had mine there it would have found a new home at those prices

So close to having it done correctly....Shouldn't the spare be of the same size as the running tires?

Re: Mecum $55k Model A

Fault finding doesn't change the fact that at least two people liked the car enough to spend some serious money on it. To each his own. They probably know what they can afford and not afford. Maybe the top bidder wants to change the color, tires, and anything else, then maybe he doesn't care and is going to have fun driving it a few weeks and then sell or trade it for something else. At least he knows he won the bidding and maybe that was enough reward. We just don't know an others motives do we?

I was watching and saw this one; price isn't currently listed on the site but I believe it sold for $30k.

Gimmick Trucks are evidently where the money is.

So it's obviously supposed to some sort of fire appliance. What's the big light on a stick for? Maybe they thought they might not be able to see the fire in the dark!

It sold for $34,100 according to the Mecum website. Here are two photos of it from the Mecum web site:

They don't need motives. They spill that much every day.

But not all cars sell high. This AACA winning 1928 coupe for 12,100.00 and a good looking 1929 phaeton at 16,500.00 both seem like a good deal:

https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0118-31...model-a-coupe/

https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0118-32...del-a-phaeton/

These prices INCLUDE the 10 percent buyer's fee.

I always say an auction is like a day at the races, some will win, some will loose. Ya' just never know!

So, on the fire chief pickup, the big fire truck gets to the fire and reels out the hose, but no one can spray until the chief comes with the nozzle. :D
