A head on B engine what is involved? drill some steam holes? im thinking about using a higher comp A alum head on the B motor

Re: A head on B engine Hi; My '32 B came with a Model A head and pump, ran fine. In fact it was a Model A "police" Ford high comp head..... a 'B' head. Check the gaskets for any changes. Newc

Re: A head on B engine well this B has the C head on it, which is high comp I guess. just thinking about going A head so a waterpump is more avalable
|
Re: A head on B engine The stock B head with the C on it is 4.6:1 and the stock A head is 4.22:1.

Re: A head on B engine Have you ever heard of the S.S.O.S Society? Dedicated to Ford fours. Secret
Society of Speed google it- has been around 25 yrs, based in Ohio. Newc |
Re: A head on B engine Between #2,3 there's 2 small holes, depending on the head, and gasket used those 2 holes may need to be plugged

Re: A head on B engine Many years ago I ran a Model A cylinder head on a Model B engine in my 1929 Station Wagon with oversize tires for hard driving on sandy beaches. At the time my nephew was a hot rodder and he threaded bolts into the two steam holes that are in the block, then cut and filed them flat. Used the regular Model A cylinder head gasket, drove many miles over about 12 years, never had a problem.

Re: A head on B engine I'm not a Ford Four Banger guy so the
steam hole doesn't compute with me. Can any of you guys fill us in? Thanks |

There is a monthly "banger" thread. Not sure it's still active. If not, the model A forum here is good. They know touring As and B motors. . |
Re: A head on B engine so its time. ive not had anyone say for sure it wont work or do it this way not that way. I can reach inside and see that if I drill the holes in the head the hit the water jacket.
im leaning to just drilling the holes to match https://i.imgur.com/fd1JhIj.jpg |
Re: A head on B engine If your motive is what you believe to the be the relatively availability of B water pumps, I believe that you've been misled. There out there in quantity.
|
Re: A head on B engine Use the Model B gasket with either the B head or the high compression Model A head and the steam holes are covered so the problem is gone. I am basing this on all of the High compression Model A heads I have ever seen. I assume you are running this in a Model A, if not then what?

Re: A head on B engine years ago when i put one of charlie yapps heads on my B motor i had leaks from those holes. had the head off twice. then called charle and he said "we always plug those holes" so, i did, problem solved.
