37 wiring issue

Hi Guys, I'm installing a wiring harness in my car. The issue is, the wiring from the headlights are R/BLK, Y/BLK and G/BLK. The wires from the harness are, WHITE/R, WHITE/G, and BLK/YELLOW. Anyone have any ideas. The harness is a "Wirey Joe" replacement. Thanks Bruce

Well, a wild guess would be red to red, green to green & yellow to yellow. Can you trace the wires out and connect them by function?

Might need to get a meter out.

Colors don't mean anything Use a test light to find out what works then connect your new wires to it .I just rewired my 40 and used my own wires , just mark them as you connect them

Re: 37 wiring issue

Given this situation, I would:
turn the steering column light switch to the parking light position, then touch each wire from the main harness to each of the light harness wires. One of the connections should light up the parking light. Keep that connection. Next, turn the light switch to the low beam position. Do the same procedure with the other two connections. Keep the connection that lights up the low beam headlight. The last connection is easy, it is the only one left, make that connection and voila!

Re: 37 wiring issue

Many replacement wiring looms contain unused wires so they can be used on several makes and models. When you order, ask if there is a diagram included. If not, look elsewhere.

"Colors don't mean anything...."? With original harnesses and quality model-specific reproductions they are the beginning and ending of the job.

Why would the solenoid arc to the firewall. If I remove the two screws, it starts fine. Any suggestions? Thanks Bruce

Re: 37 wiring issue

Do you know which solenoid type you have? There are a number of them, some are grounded and some are not. But none of them should ground the battery connection to ground. It is also possible it is defective.

How about posting a drawing of how you have it wired up?

Re: 37 wiring issue

It is the original solenoid, with the starter button on the bottom

Re: 37 wiring issue

And the starter button on the dash is a ground?

Bad solenoid!!!!!!! Have a new replacement, No more arcing. Now I have to get back to the wiring harness. Thanks for your input. Bruce
