Vic

Where did you get the wheel cylinders for the Zephyr?

Frenchy

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Frenchy, I got them from NAPA, they are not U.S. made but they look good and (so far) work well.:) And the best part... they were $17.00 each not $55.00 each from a Lincoln Zephyr parts dealer...:D:cool: Vic

Frenchy, the NAPA part # for the Zephyr wheel cylinders is: 14494

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Now that the Zephyr is firing on all 12 cylinders and running the way she should:D, its time for us to focus our attention on Mike's '41 BC and go through the brakes next Saturday. After that we'll pull the '51 F-1's transmission out and install the '49 Merc transmission with OD.;) That should make the truck even more "user friendly" on those long, over the highway, road trips. Stay tuned for more Flathead fun...:D:cool:

Thanks Vic great information on these part # the last set I bought from Boos / Herrel Lincoln Zephyr sold me a pair for over $120.00. This will be some saving for me on the second time around on my new project. Vic is there a part # to rebuild the original one.

Thanks
Frenchy

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Frenchy, I'm not sure about the sleeve, etc. for rebuilding the wheel cylinders, Try calling Joblot in Queens, NY, ask for James (tell him I said hi ):), he should be able to help. It really pays to cross reference part #'s, anything with a "B" prefix can be used on Ford, Mercury & Lincoln Zephyr and a lot of the rubber parts are interchangeable as well. It’s much less expensive to buy "Ford/Merc" parts... Vic

Frenchy,

Glad I could help. I just want a ride in your Hot Rod Lincoln :D if and when I get the chance to be out in Tempe again...

Vic

The part # you gave me is this for the front or the rear. I know that the front wheel cylinders maybe different because of the pressure applied vs the rear which maybe less.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Sorry Frenchy, CRS rears its ugly head once again...:o # 14494 are the front wheel cylinders and # 14493 are the rear wheel cylinders.

Parts is Parts...

Wow,:D I got a phone call from a friend of a friend last night, he has a '50 F-1 that he put a Mustang II front end in and he asked me if I would like the original axle complete with springs, backing plates drums, etc. I'm taking a ride today to pick it up!

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Parts is Parts... Update

I drove over to pick up Don (so he could help me move the ’50 F-1 front axle assembly), got to his house around 10:30am. I drove through a little rain but the sky was clear and dry when we got to the location where the axle was. The guy had the axle, etc. assembled and sitting in a small trailer:). I asked if I could just hook the trailer up to my F-150, take the axle home, then bring the trailer back on my way to drop Don off at his house. He agreed and Don and I took off for my house. We took the Axle, etc. out of the trailer and headed back… about this time the sky opened up and the rain came down… Fortunately, there was a lull in the downpour just as we pulled into the lot where we needed to return the trailer.:D The ’50 F-1 that the axle came out of now has a Mustang II with (I think) a 302c.i. OHV, etc. The owner of the truck wants to swap transmissions (not sure what he’s got in it but I know it’s not the original) so he’s going to drive it over to my garage this Saturday for us to get a look at it… I wonder if he likes pizza…:eek:;)

Vic: I've worked 6 mo in the past 3 1/2 years, but I'm thinking of taking some of my 401K and moving near to you and opening a pizza parlour, figure in a couple of years I'll have made enough money to retire................

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Paul,
Not a good idea. In the worst case the pizza is only about a 5 minute walk away. Walking there would only happen when something is not drivable. Been there. The pizza is good stuff.

Paul, if you'll deliver:eek:, that would be excellent!:D Plus we can always use another set of hands wrenchin' on our Flatheads;) Vic

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

The UPS Lady dropped off a package of parts today ;). Thanks to Roy Nacewicz the '39 LZ is now sportin' new coil nuts :D

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/010-6.jpg
and a new copper clad steel Fuel pump to carb fuel line.:D:cool:

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/011-4.jpg
By the way, if any of you hapen to have a '39 or '40 LZ air cleaner that's lookin' for a new home... I have a place for it;)
Now I have to get the generator converted to 12 volts and get a 12 volt voltage regulator so I can get rid of the one wire alternator and hook up the original style harness that is inside the plug wire looms...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

I'm looking forward to tomorrow:), the plan, as of now, is to install '50 F-1 backing plates, brakes and drums on the front axle of Mike's '41 Business Coupe... After that, I hope to get our '51 F-1 up on the lift to disconnect and pull the stock transmission:eek: so we can replace it with the '49 Merc OD transmission... that's a lot to get done before pizza...:D;)
