32 pickup fuel tank
 

Does anyone make a reproduction fuel tank for the 32 pickups? It is located under the seat. Thanks

Is 32 gas tank under the seat?? Isn't it under the back, like the passenger car? It is in 35-36 anyhow.

This one is under the seat. I did a search on the forum before I posted this and found some saying their 33s and 34s were under the seat while others were on the frame in the rear. All the sources I found for repro tanks only offer back to 33. I could not find a source for a 32. This truck is a true half ton cab, not a big truck cab on a pickup frame. It's not my truck, I'm just trying to help a fella locate one.

No repro 32 pickup gas tanks being made and yes they were all under the seat.Originals appear on EPAY occasionally.

Here is a link to a company that makes tanks-they may have already made one for a 32 pick up. They also have pre-made for many cars-but not 32 pick up. I got one for my 37 pick up. http://www.rockvalleyantiqueautoparts.com/catalog.htm

The cabs and front end sheet metal are the same for pickups and 1.5 ton trucks. The 1.5 ton trucks in 32, 33 and 34 were all underseat tanks. This may widen your search for a tank. I would check with hot rod shops in your area as most probably a hot rod would run a fuel cell etc. Under seat tanks tend to slosh fuel out on corners. If the truck is a driver you may be better off tucking a fuel cell in or under the bed.

Unless you are building a BB as 1932BB says why put the tank under the seat? A passenger tank will be perfect at the rear.

my4dv8,Have you tried putting a 32 pass car tank under the bed of a 32 pickup? In my opinion it won't work without a lot of work.

No, only a 34, and that was a straight forward deal.but thanks for the heads up, as we have a 32 pickup waiting for attention. Sorry to hijack the thread but what are the obstacles , presume it is the deck. Any forward help appreciated..

Deuce lover's "a lot of work" is actually an understatement. There is simply no room for a passenger car gas tank between the underside of the bed and the rear of a '32 frame compounded by the substantial overhang of the bed relative to the end of the rear of the frame. You'd have to raise about 20" of the bed over the end of the frame about 2" to achieve the required clearance, create a filler for the tank through the side of the bed, and then create a substitute to serve as a foundation for mounting the seat in the bed.

There are a lot of the underseat tanks around and most aren't advertised given the modest demand for them (which is also the reason they have never been reproduced along with the fact that such a reproduction would be more demanding to make than most passenger car tanks). With the properly gasketed non-vented gas cap, the underseat tank will not "slosh fuel out on corners" (they are vented on the underside of the tank), at least in my experience with a '32 station wagon.

If you wish to install a 33-34 type gas tank at the rear of your '32 frame perhaps you'd enjoy the Pbase thread posted by an excellent photographer named Ed Goodnight. He photographed the build up of a 1932 Ford pickup by his friend and neighbor Charlie Horton in upper New York state. I love the thread and Charlie's work is extremely well documented by Ed Goodnight.

Please tell me where to find such a cap and what the part number is. I have a non vented cap but the gasket is a fiber donut that does not seal. My wife will appreciate it!

I've seen 33 -34 tanks (after market) installed in '32 pickups before.
Looked like a nice fit?

The 32 commercial tanks are under the seat and require a differant sending unit then the cars. G.M.

I have a 1932 roadster pickup that the gas tank has been taken out from under the seat and a pass car tank has been installed under the bed and we did nothing to the pass tank just installed on top of the frame in orginal location of car and put a door in the bed over the neck . Just open the door and take off the cap and fill. Did put a spreader bar on the frame to protect it.
