Back to this B engine. Removed the rod caps, and removed the pistons. Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck I'd check with Ft. Wayne Clutch for a replacement PP and clutch disc. If you can find a new ring gear installing it is a piece of cake. Put the flywheel in the freezer and heat the neat ring gear on the barbie (mama's oven works as well but not recommended:cool:) The ring gear will slide onto the flywheel and lock in place.

Yes was glad I did not get excited and try to start this engine. Parts will be evaluated for goodness/ rework. Thanks for the clutch information. I have done ring gears on Allis engines heated the ring gear in the oven to correct expansion and it dropped right on. I believe that will be in the list of things to do also. (The list is growing.) Even though the plan is to not do a full restoration on the truck. the mechanics take about the same amount of work to get them correct. Wed balanced the shop projects with some time on 17,000 acre pond on PA/ OH line. Friend Jim with the catch of the day. Folks, Yes right on the mark. Pymatuning Resevoir. Not sure where all the fish were? On the 32 engine: Removed all the head studs. I believe those will be replaced with new ones, as some have corrosion concerns. Removed the keepers from the valves. Pulled out the valve springs. Valve guides?? Havent started that yet. Thanks, The guides are out, valves are out. cam is out. Nono of it was pretty and am not proud. But we are going with new style components in this engine so these were not going to be used. No children were harmed during this process! The engine is at the machine shop and we will begin the process. First look found a couple things. Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck Fix the one you have because you know what you have and it is a typical job to sleeve a cylinder. Besides you are going to make it perfect (inside ) anyway. Babbiting B engines are done every day. (Dreamwerks-NC ) . Also that engine has hauled that truck around faithfully for years. You can't throw out a dog just because he his old.
When mechanically perfect, re-apply the dirt and grease to the not repainted outside and with the later V8 clutch assembly rebuilt by Fort Wayne, you will be on the road!! |

Both those options are on the table. But My current plan would be to rebuild the engine that I have into a good servicable engine with some changes/ upgrades that exist today. Namely replaceable bearing inserts for mains and rods. have the one cylinder sleeved. bore the block for next oversized pistons. valves and seats with adjustable lifters. thats about it. Now if a good used engine appears I will surely consider that too, as this is not the original engine in the truck. The 32 got to go outside for some sun, while Jim from Bugs & Tugs helped me rearrange some things in the shop. I have so much to do on this truck it seems overwhelming at times. But have been through these projects before so Just need to go slow and keep hitting at it a little each day. I skirt around the edges of being a hoarder. I understand the concept! Have seen it in action too. Might get there someday too. Thanks for the comments Always welcome! Off to try to get started on wood working today. So is there a place where all the B Engine specs are stored? Like the dimensions for the crank journals? My machinist wants me to give him the specs. I will find them eventually, I havent looked too hard yet. I plan to get the trans on the engine stand soon for cleaning and evaluation. Also have to try to get the water pump apart for review of the shaft. Any hints on that would be appreciated too. A big shout out to Don Snyder of Snyder's Antique parts. I called with a tech question about the intermediate shaft from the distributor to the oil pump drive. I did not know how this came apart. (simple slip fit) Mine was rusted into the oil pump sleeve. Don assured me that a pair of vice grips on the shaft and some taps with a hammer would release it he was correct! Little things like that really help someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Ok I have these old seat springs that were in the truck. They may or may not be the correct back springs and the bottom ones are not correct. But if anyone might need these for a project I would be willing to let them go. Regards, Chris |

The jib was on the wish list for the building. Luckily my neighbor had this stuff (steel) laying back in the weeds! 12 inch pipe about 13 feet above the floor, 6 foot hole, 3 foot dia. poured a 1 foot thick concrete pad for the post to set on. Rebar frame embedded in that base. set the post them poured a yard of concrete around the post. next poured the pipe full of concrete around the 4 rebars I had inserted. The frame is my design. Has Allis WD bearings in the pivot joints. Friend Matt H made the pivot pins. Dayton hoist was picked off facebook market place and repaired. Trolley was given to me by friend Brent H. Jib only has a lift height of 8 feet, hook to floor, but is real handy. Swings 180 into centers of both inside door ways. A lift of some type has not appeared yet!:) Bob, thanks for the link. Wow lots of information there! Whooped on this end to today, the wood and coating got the best of me! Side note: We did have the first sweet corn from our garden today! Regards, Chris |

Pretty quiet on the 32 progress. Will work with Valley Machine to get the specs for the engine and dimension and then Snyder's for the proposed parts required. That may take a week or so. A good friend John R stopped by and brought me some spare parts he had. Great to have good friends in Ford places! The intake manifold looks like it would work fine if needed. Its going to look pretty good. The small room in the corner is for a vertical air compressor. Thinking of getting a 80 gallon and leaving the 60 gallon Kobalt, in the house garage.
