Gas not getting to Carburetor

1 Attachment(s)
I couldn't drive my '37 for several months this year. During this time it seems the fuel line has become clogged. Question: Before I dismantle the fuel line, will blowing it out with a compressor likely solve the problem? or solvent poured down line?

Blowing back to the tank may clear it, but don't blow through the pump, as that may damage the diaphram. You may also remove the flex hose for inspection, as it may be swollen closed or collapsed from modern fuel. Removal of the pump's top may reveal the suspected sediment, but hold off on that unless you have a good replacement gasket.

I had the same situation and it was the flex line. The new Ethanol fuel attacked the rubber. If you are going to try to clear it with your compressor, do not blow it back to the tank, all you are doing is pushing the crud back to the tank. The Ethanol might have attacked the diaphragm in the pump also.

Re: Gas not getting to Carburetor

While fixing the exhaust on my ‘41 I discovered another fuel filter in the frame rail mounted before an in-line 6 volt fuel pump. I knew the previous owner said he mounted an electric pump that ran off an intermittent switch, but I didn’t realize there was a filter there also. So my car has two fuel filters and a sediment bowl. Something to check.
