spurious parts

1 Attachment(s)
I've seen service bulletins about the dangers of using spurious parts. Illustrated here is one such example. This was a nors axle I fitted to my Columbia diff. From the get go it was too short, requiring the use of a shim in order to seat the hub correctly?!!. Yeah right! Been on for about one year now. Recently have done a hydraulic brake conversion, upon re-fitting the rear drums, could not get the axle nut up to torque. Here's why.....

Can anyone explain what is meant by a NORS axle?

New old replacement stock. Non Ford.

Term, to me, is intended to refer to parts that were available back in the time period but not manufacture parts. Not modern repos.

OLD 1950s Moog front end replacement parts would be ONE example, or maybe old Western Auto brand replacement radiator hoses would be another prime candidate for NORS, non-Ford-produced parts. DD

This axle in question is stamped/engraved REGENT No 939

One thing I learnt in primary/junior school was that if a manufacturer wasn't proud enough of his product to put his name on it, then said item is not worth buying....guess, sometimes, even if the guy puts his brand on the item, it's still junk!!

So, like in the case of Brian's REGENT Axle above, it's NOT that the manufacturer wasn't PROUD enough to put his name on it......in this case he was DUMB enough to put his name on it! Man, that's unbelievable what I'm seeing of that axle pictured above. DD

On the positive side it twisted and didn't break off. It's still a spurious part.

Re: spurious parts

Yeah, I could feel it 'stretching' as I attempted to torque it up, thought I'd better stop before it sheared!

Re: spurious parts

Luckily I've only worked with genuine Ford axles . . . they are weak enough in my mind! LOL
