cowl lacing

Purchased a cowl lacing kit from Snyders, but it doesn't come with instructions. What are the j brackets for? I assume the split rivets go to the bottom on each side, I just don't know with to do with the j brackets. Thanks for any discussion or photos.

They go on the ends of the cowl lacing and hook into the cowl should be a hole on each side for the J-hook.

You must be talking about the 1930-1 kit with a J hook attached to each end of the lacing. I use an awl to poke holes in one end of the lacing, then rivet the J hook and stick it into the middle slot. Then place the welt in position and measure where it needs to be cut at the other end. Cut it so the J hook can be rivetted just like the first one and stuck into the middle slot. Now you can use the awl to poke holes where the screw goes on each side to tighten it up.

The 1928-9 had a small J hook in the center on top, which is used to tighten and hold the lacing.

Aha ...thank you... I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the j hook was for.
I guess if you have seen it you would know. Mine didn't have it, they just hung there
