I think most owners of original cars who wish to use them will keep the mechanicals in tip top condition. New king pins/suspension bushes/wheel bearings/brake linings etc dont detract from an original finish car.

Ive got Teds brake improvers on my Tudor, and the steering is slop free. My next job is to re-bush the springs as it wanders a bit. It is vital to keep on top of these things, otherwise we are endangering other road users as well as ourselves!

True..If you original paint car had an almost perfect finish. I once looked at a car like this but the interior was a mess so I passed. In searching for a car I was interested in an original interior/not redone. But even if my paint finish was near perfect, I would put a good layer of wax or would that take away from it?. Many original paint cars have some life scars which would allow you to not worry too much about an additional new mark.

My '37 Fordor has original paint and interior. If you look carefully you can see remnants of the pin striping. Car has 61k miles on it and I'm the fourth owner.

Some times you just gotta repaint them. Here's a pic of my current project, btw, original color was black and that is the color I'm painting it. Ford Black

My "original paint" 32 Fordor.

The car had been drag raced in the 50's and was hacked up to a point that most would have called it a good parts car. I brought it back to life and think it has a story to tell as is. Some opinions may differ.

Some years back at a show , a open raggedy Packard sat next to a fully restored version. You can guess where the crowd was

Same thing here. The "patina" Fordor gets way more attention than the shiny black one in my avatar...

Surely though if it was repainted properly, there wouldn't be any over spray or tape lines?
They ain't on the cars we repaint at work.
I'm not saying it ain't original, but lack of what you mention isn't proof of that.

My original paint 1937 Ford. There are some areas that were touched up, but it is mostly original and the Tacoma Cream stripe is still visible in many spots.

All these original cars are so beautiful, I would love to go to a car show with all and only originals. Such great looking cars!
