painting running board aprons. When the weather breaks I'm thinking about painting the fenders and running board aprons. Other than removing the fenders, running boards, taking up the floor, disconnecting the steering column, to raise the body up to get the aprons out, what if anything do I have to do to paint the black parts? Do I really need to remove the aprons to paint them? And, is there a paint code for the black parts? Any thoughts?

Re: painting running board aprons. Chuck Kallas, my other "Son", cherried up Minervas' fenders, masked everything carefully, even cocooned the engine compartment & painted FENDERS/RUNNING BOARD SHIELDS/RADIATOR SPLASH SHIELD. He used synthetic enamel, with a hardener & after 3 days in the sun, he cut & polished them, along with the old 1996 BLACK Lacquer body paint.
Came out BEAUTIFUL! looked like a HIGH $$$$$$$ new paint job! Absolutely NO OVERSPRAY! Bill Showcar |
Re: painting running board aprons. Dupont 9300 thanks.....that good news Bill. I would rather mask everything than jack up the body

Re: painting running board aprons. Bill; What do you mean by "cut"? The polish is obvious. Jack

Re: painting running board aprons. "Cut"....coarse compound prior to polish or buff. We use to just call it "rubbing it out"

Re: painting running board aprons. 3 Attachment(s)
I refinished mine on the car before I installed the front fender and running boards. They came out fine.
