Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil I am asking this question because I don't know the answer. Is the coil in Post #4 the one that was installed on the cars when they were built or is it an aftermarket coil?
|
Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil The picture is aftermarket.

Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil Ford used a number of different coils during production. The early cars had script but that didn't last. The originals generally had a permanently attached bracket. Some had angled terminals and some were straight. The tube type terminal nuts were common.
I'm still using an old reproduction coil and it still works. I think I purchased in back in the late 1980s. |

I do it on the bench using a spare distributor. Tom Wesenberg once posted a schematic for a tester, I searched but couldn't find it. Found it: |
Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil If the coil is still available, I’m interested in it

Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil If somebody's willing to pay shipping, I'm always happy to test coils at no charge. I have an MT-640 tester. Can check polarity, strength, and performance when heated.

I have this one if someone needs it. I have no use for it so $50 would be plenty. Just pm me if you can use it. Not sure if it works.

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...6&d=1746145762 I was using a coil like this for a long time, but last week it died - the secondary winding is open. Is there any possible way to repair it? Is that sleeve that holds the top in place soldered on? Or should I just toss it? Doug |
Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil The amount of work to repair a coil is likely way out of proportion to its value. Remember the components are (best case) immersed in oil or (worst case) sealed in hardened epoxy.
|
Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil Doug, Empty the can and put a new coil inside. Find a new coil that fits inside. I think most of the ones that you can buy from the dealers will fit.

Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil What does the circled SP on the coil represent? I assume a manufacturer?

Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil 5 Attachment(s)
I have one that I would also sell for $50 plus postage (probably under $10 in a small box), since that seems to be the going rate for these rare script coils on this website. There are no dents. I don't know if it works, but I have no reason to think it doesn't. $50 as is plus postage, working or not, rain or shine, pretty much cleaned to bare metal.

Re: Looking for repro FORD script coil Most of the original coils I've seen will work when you get started but lose strength quickly as they heat up.
