I purchased this 38 ford pickup about a year ago.
My intent was to get it running and putt around town, well one thing lead to another and here we are 47ish 59ab fully rebuilt, 30 over, small cam ect not high end hot rod built but it will be a very good driver motor T5 transmission, rebuilt as well Halibrand quick change - rebuilt Frame and all suspension has been powered coated New Complete with upgrades and color coated to the original wiring harness from Rhode island wiring Glide seat which is one of my favorite parts! Every nut and bolt has been replaced so far.. LOL |

Re: My 38 Ford build Nice. Was the truck originally a 60HP?
|
Re: My 38 Ford build 38isthebestyear,
Welcome to the Ford Barn! You have done a lot of work on your truck in a year. I like the engine stand! Regards, Chris and Cheryl |
Re: My 38 Ford build Small back story on the truck.
1938 bought New by a farmer in Missouri he fell in love with the truck, it was his pride and joy. 1959/1960 he decided to sell his farm and move to Kansas, under the condition he got to keep this truck. At the new house he contained to drive the truck a few more years I couldn't get details why he stopped driving it, at this point i assume because of his age 1975/1976 Grandson started to restore the old truck, but he only fully disassembled it. he tried to store as much of the truck inside the garage as he could but some had to be outside. 2023, I picked it up and right away started going thru everything to see what all i was missing and started ordering parts! it was a v860 i really need to be better at taking photos |

Re: My 38 Ford build Very nice job! What is at the body shop getting painted? The truck, the engine or the run stand? All 3 show nice attention to detail, and welcome to the 'barn. I kept the cable brakes on my '38 tonner and living in an area with a huge deer population, I had quite a few occasions to lock them up.

Re: My 38 Ford build What Glide seat did you use? Can you show some pics of it?

Re: My 38 Ford build The engine run stand is at the body shop, it will be painted a nice slick black color, and the fuel tank, radiator is at the polish shop. I have an extra 59ab that was rebuilt several several years ago, it spins very nice and i undecisive if i want to send it off, i have a 4" crack, 3/4 cam ect ect
The Glide seat https://www.glideengineering.com/copy-of-product is on page 33, i dont have a current picture of it sorry |
Re: My 38 Ford build 2 Attachment(s)
These are the rear wheels ill be running, a company out of cali. I sent my wide 5 3.5" wheels and they made them 6" i believe the outer rim is from a dodge caravan. Ill have to find my recipe later and ill edit this post for the company name
I did a ton of test fitting to make sure they would fit, and now im confident they will. One of the thing I'm struggling with is tire size, i want to run the same size front and rear mainly bc i will already have a rake in the suspension ( i lowered the front a little more than the rear) and i love to rotate my tires. so im thinking about a 6.5x16 or a 7.00x16 |
Re: My 38 Ford build 1 Attachment(s)
another shoot of the engine run stand
|
Re: My 38 Ford build You're doing a really nice job on this truck - much appreciate you taking the time to post what you're doing and the progress along the way! Get it "done" and on the road!
|
Re: My 38 Ford build Those tire sizes pretty much scream Bias Ply. And that's just fine as they have 'the look'. I'm partial to 7.50x16 on the rear, and front too if they clear. specially since you widened the wheels. Me, I have switched over to radials and run 215 85r 16. Tall, skinny and cheap at the used tire places.

Re: My 38 Ford build You’re doing a heck of job on that truck!……I have all the parts for a ‘37 as my “on-deck “ project…….I don’t think there’s two pieces that came from the same vehicle….yours is gonna be a nice looking ride……..Mark

Re: My 38 Ford build 5 Attachment(s)
I found this cool gauge from a 39 transit bus, Iron trap garage was selling it. I personally have never seen one, and from the researched i did do about it, its a rare item for sure! I thought it would be perfect in my truck seeing how i am running electric temp sensors. I sent it off to redline gauge and clock repair to have it restored, while it was out i ran across this NOS Waltham 39 ford Speedometer and of course when i test fitted it i cracked the glass.... just my luck.. but non the less i did get the both gauges test fitted
