Re: Trading in your model a........ I would like another pre-67 Beetle, but they've turned into gold.I looked at a solid, straight, unrestored 65 a few months ago.Interior was perfectly presentable, but worn.Sounded good, ran smooth, but the power was down and smoked some.It was $15,000,and it was sold in a couple of days.I've been sitting on a solid 64 that needs a complete going through for about 18 years now.It looks like if I want one I'm going to have to build it.I had dozens of those things in the early-mid 70's.

Re: Trading in your model a........ I sold 3 project A’s before moving to North Dakota (29 Cabriolet, 30 Town Sedan, 31 Vicky)and continue to add Chevy Camaros to my collection. 69 Z28, 92 Z28, 94 Z28, 99 SS convertible, 23 ZL1 1LE. I still have a 29 CCPU and a 29 Business Coupe.

Re: Trading in your model a........ ronn I like the way you think:)
Have a Model A, a '36 Ford, and a '69Mach. I like all of them for what they are. If I pick up another car in the future it will be a mid-60's or early 70's Ford. Always had a soft spot for 7 Litre Fords and the first generation Torinos:) |
Re: Trading in your model a........ 1 Attachment(s)
I only have the 1 Model A, but I have a 74 Corvette and a 16 Nissan as well.

Re: Trading in your model a........ Sold our last Model A, that we had owned for 43 years, this past spring.
We were saving the car for our grandson, but he is years away from every wanting it. Bought him a Volvo XC60 to drive for college. That made more sense in the long run. After 60 plus years of antique cars, it’s time to move on. I feel really good about what I have decided on. Really love Model A’s, but there comes a time for everything to end. Enjoy your cars. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ 33-34 ford but…
You would likely need to sell several A’s to buy one 33-34. Way cut above Model A in all respects |
Re: Trading in your model a........ Wish I still had my 1969 GTO, but my BMW Z3 is a better overall car.
Love my 1931 Tudor. However, my wife's Porsche Macan is best car ever had though. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ About 20 years ago i got to a swap meet at 5:30 AM,and ran into my cousin at the gate.He was looking for a 32-3-4 body to build. We saw a guy uncovering his truck, with a lot of people gathering around it.It was a 33 or 34 coupe body,It was quite a show,it was still dark out,but guys had it lit up with flashlights like a hollywood stage. When he wrote $6500.on the door with shoe polish my cousin laughed, and said I'll come back when it looks like he is ready to leave.Maybe he'll come to his senses when he has to take it back home.I said,Bill, look now.The seller was crossing out the price and writing SOLD on the door. The guy never even got to write the price on the other door.

Re: Trading in your model a........ 1 Attachment(s)
I'd part with a couple Model A's if it meant getting an original 1948 Harley FL 74. Old Harleys are gold these days.
I bought a 48 FL 74 in 1963 when I was 15 for a hundred bucks. Got it running and rode it to high school in the spring and fall. A 48 Harley was the first year of the panhead, and last year of the springer front forks. The chances of someone willing to trade any Model A's for that particular bike is zero. That's my old dog Trixie on the bike with me. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ Old Triumphs are holding their value, but old Harley's seem to be increasing in value.
|
Re: Trading in your model a........ I've had a couple dozen British bikes over the years.Only two Triumphs though.BSA's,Nortons,AJS,Ariel,Matchless.Lots of BSA's.I still have a 58 A-10 in the shed, last registered in 1982.I put new tires on it the last time I registered it,and it never even left the yard. In 1977 I bought a 41 or a 46 EL,(61 inch) that was an untouched bike.Stored dry, only the leather was aged.I paid $1600.for it back then.I kind of snaked it out from under all the other buyers that were insisting they needed to hear it run first.I paid and hauled it away.I bought it from the original owner that had parked it around 1960.

Re: Trading in your model a........ OK, the bike I want is a Vincent...... been biting my knuckles to long on that one.
a rapid would be fine. |

Sounds like a cool car - just needs triple 97s and flames on the hood. Off-topic but I never could understand why they called the model with auxilliary seats (in Ford-speak) the Business Coupe, but without it was simply Coupe. Seems to me a traveling businessman (i.e., salesman) would need cargo space more than passenger capacity. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ I probably will never trade off my original Model A as long as I'm able to keep it up. I have a few other old nice cars but the Model A takes me back to the way cars were from the beginning even though it's not the first car ever made. Like a enjoyable trip back in time evrytime I drive it.

Re: Trading in your model a........ I will always have my town Sedan which I restored 42 years ago but a few years ago I sold my 30 A Roadster and purchased a 1959 Triumph TR3 .

Re: Trading in your model a........ 28 Model A Pickup
29 Chevy Phaeton 67 250 SL Pagoda 67 E Type Series I Coupe 83 911 SC 41 Piper Cub 41 Tiger Moth 52 Super Cub Sold the aircraft after retirement |
Re: Trading in your model a........ I'm without an old car after 35 years of driving them.
Too many other things on my to-do list right now. If we were shopping for another it might be a Model A sedan, AA truck or an early 60s Rambler, 50s Studebaker, or any 50s-60s pickup. Maybe even an Allis-Chalmers WD. Won't know until if and when it happens....... |
Re: Trading in your model a........ Floats has my sl! ;)
I gave up the thought of airplanes over 20 yrs ago. I can hardly walk straight these days. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ Model A stake truck. I let my dad sell his restored 1931 years ago and wish I had it now. Make sure you really do want to sell the A's because it is not easy to turn back time once they are gone.
|
Re: Trading in your model a........ if I had more space, dont think the 5 would be a problem, but my bucket list is sooooo
long and I want a few others before I cant. I have 2 roadsters......a 29 all original with incredible patina and a light coating of rust. the 1930 was restored in the 70s with crackling paint. which to keep? always the dilemma, but Ild like to swap one for something different. at least As are more attainable then some of the other choices. the vincent will most likely never happen, but I always was a dreamer. an early indian powerplus has been on my list for 30 yrs, but now have become way too expensive. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ If I sold my A's and a couple of other toys I would find a 41 Lincoln Continental convertible. That's always been my dream car.
|
Re: Trading in your model a........ Ayers, if thats youre dream car, nows the time to buy.
Ive seen a few in the last 2 yrs selling for 20k and thats an incredible steal! those cars were 45k 10 yrs ago. the bargain of the decade. 20k buys a nice driver. |
Re: Trading in your model a........ I agree ronn. Unfortunately I'm not ready to give my A's up yet! Maybe 1 day, who knows.......
|
Re: Trading in your model a........ a 12 cylinder to boot?
the gas bill will eat you out of house and home! |
Re: Trading in your model a........ Lol, by the time you figure in gas for several A's, an 1949 farm tractor, a 6hp hit and miss engine it couldn't get too much worse!!!
|
Re: Trading in your model a........ I went backwards and traded my 1959 oldsmobile dynamic 88 for my current model A. I was bored of the Olds and never owned a model A. Don't regret it one bit either.
|
Re: Trading in your model a........ I’m 88 and my wife is 79 so I’m thinking about thinning the herd. I sold my ’27 T Touring a few weeks ago and am now thinking about selling my ’22 T Roadster, my early ’28 Open Cab Pickup, my ’28 Roadster and my ’37 Fordor Touring Sedan. I plan to keep my ’34 roadster until the day I die though. I think this car would be easiest for her to sell.
