What Size Tailpipes I put Red's Headers on my 40 Convertible, Smithy Mufflers with 2" inlets and outlets. Do I go with 2" exhaust pipes or 1 3/4"?
|
Re: What Size Tailpipes 1 3/4” O.D. Would be plenty big enough.

Re: What Size Tailpipes 1 3/4"

Re: What Size Tailpipes Straight pipes are where it's at. Even smaller diameters are fine and help tame the bark too. 8^)
|
Re: What Size Tailpipes If you are using Smithy's then then you will have to use adapters and extra clamps for 1 3/4" T-pipes. Go with the 2" (no big difference in sound)
|
Re: What Size Tailpipes Why would anyone install less restrictive headers and then install more restrictive tailpipes?
|
Re: What Size Tailpipes I always do 2 inch. Sometimes with and sometimes without mufflers, depends on the car.

Re: What Size Tailpipes Before Burbank went Stop Sign Crazy there was a steep hill that was locally used to test performance. We made up our own rules to suit the car. It is a real-world test or was. We then enjoyed a glimpse into the performance mythology that clouded the Hot Rod Minds of the era. JWL blew the doors off of so many lies and damn lies. Fred A

Re: What Size Tailpipes In JWL's Book "Flathead facts" He has allot to say about the flathead exhaust and any modifications you might want to make to it and the results. Great information.

Re: What Size Tailpipes Dual 1.75 will give you a nice crackle without that 2" overkill drone sound. Won't worry about getting more flow for "performance".

Re: What Size Tailpipes 1 Attachment(s)
I managed to fabricate this 2.5” stainless single system into my frame. Sounds really good with my little 35 engine. I chose a single system so I can keep my battery under the floor. I also fabricated the headers in ss.

Re: What Size Tailpipes My Smithies only lasted a few years but did have a nice mellow sound. Brock mans have been on much longer and still seem very solid

It takes up less room in the garage when I park it like this !! |
Re: What Size Tailpipes Red’s with no mufflers, 1 3/4” pipe . 🤓

Re: What Size Tailpipes Where not the original single exhaust on a 36 - 38 1-5/8 or 1-1/2”?
|
Re: What Size Tailpipes the original tail pipe was 11/2" single so 2 x 1 3/4" flows a lot more what a lot of people forget is heat heat greatly effects volume so the further you get away from the engine the less pipe you need so unless youve got an absolute monster or a flathead i dont think its going to have much of an effect
|
Re: What Size Tailpipes I run fentons for that reason only. Heat. Not sure if it made a difference, but that's my story. Replaced my previous 2" for 1 3/4" pipe for sound.
