What do you carry with you? Hello all! I thought I would ask all of you what extras you carry with you (if you do) when driving. I’m thinking of a small duffel bag to keep with me with some tools and extra ignition parts, belt, a fire extinguisher, flashlight, magnet, and a tire pump.
So what’s in your bag? |
Re: What do you carry with you? Cash -- and Triple A Card
|
Re: What do you carry with you? AAA card. I actually carry far more than any three cars need. I'm thinking of really scaling back. I have a small canvass Craftsman tool bag, hydraulic bottle jack, flares, fan, belt, Marvel Mystery oil, crank. I have 4 military surplus ammo cans with various stuff like spare dizzy, spare carb, light bulbs. Too much crap really.

Re: What do you carry with you? A cell phone it's the most important item to have!
|
Re: What do you carry with you? AAA card, Don’t ruin your trip carrying an extra car in parts. Some people even carry a glossary of parts. If the car is in that bad a shape stay home. Carry a spare tire, fan belt and set of points and the AAA card. You just opened a major can of worms. .

Re: What do you carry with you? Definitely a sig p365, am curious also on what other than the sig is a necessity.

Re: What do you carry with you? When I drove my restored 29 as a daily driver years ago, I just had the bag of original Ford tools, jack and an extra condenser. I had the grease gun loaded with water pump grease and a little tin of Vaseline for the distributor cam and windshield wiper motor. That was all I needed.

Re: What do you carry with you? HISTORY,not allowed to carry in N.J.I have 200 mile towing with AAA and cell phone.

Very sorry Mr Rocket, let's hope this gets changed. |
Re: What do you carry with you? History: An S&W M&P 9 for me, plus AAA, cellphone, and a few misc tools and ignition parts under the seat.
|
Re: What do you carry with you? I carry a small canvass bag with common hand tools in it under the front seat. In the bag is also a trouble light for checking voltage points, a distributor by-pass cable, a feeler gauge, and a distributor cam wrench. Under the back seat is a spare fan belt, a spare Zenith carburetor and a spare distributor that is timed for my engine. I also carry a spare lower distributor shaft. The shaft is not for me, but for other people. A number of times I have had to use my spare distributor on other people's car during a tour and several times found the one removed had the long shaft on it. I also carry a suitable jack and a lug wrench.

Re: What do you carry with you? Haha! Laughing and yet appreciative of all the responses.

Re: What do you carry with you? I carry tons too much, too much to list here. Am a firm believer if something breaks, it will be something you do not have. So if I carry enough maybe I will not break down.
I do mostly solo driving, am paranoid about getting stuck somewhere. Do not have a significant other to fetch me. Just the way I am. |

Re: What do you carry with you? WATER. For the radiator or me, whoever is thirsty at the time. A quart of oil, can of PB Blaster, can of ether,( not in the passenger compartment) basic hand tools, wrenches screwdrivers test light ECT, a couple jumper wires, wire nuts, flash lights, a tail and head light bulb, hand crank, bottle jack, blocks for said jack, lug wrench, points/condenser, a couple clean spark plugs, hose clamps, fan belt, carb kit, a pry bar suitable for rotating the engine backwards when the starter binds up, tow strap, a junk blanket to lay on or warmth, a set of channel locks that fit the water pump, a camping shovel, and a roll of paper towels.
And above all else in importance, GOOD pliars and bailing wire. First aid kit ain't a bad idea either. Sent from my E6810 using Tapatalk |
Re: What do you carry with you? Quote:
Why not just a AAA card and a cell phone. It must be terrible contemplating a breakdown every time you start the A. Can’t imagine your trips are much fun ! O |
Re: What do you carry with you? Quote:
Maybe because I don't pay for AAA, Maybe because I'm almost guaranteed no cell service in many areas I go, Or maybe, just maybe, because I enjoy a degree of self reliance, faith in my OWN skills and abilities, and take pride in handling bad situations on my own. Maybe that's it. And contrary to what you may believe, I have more fun with my rattly rusty driver quality A than any restored show queen I've owned. *Add to my last post, a handful of assorted fasteners in the bottom of the tool bag can be a life saver. Re: What do you carry with you? I would like to add though, the phone is a great plan, I do carry one. Try as one might, it's nearly impossible to plan for everything.

Re: What do you carry with you? 1 Attachment(s)
Because I read the news, along with some basic tools and some extra parts.
Don't leave home without it......... |
Re: What do you carry with you? I really think the canvas tool roll is the berries. Bucket boss has the expensive ones, but there are good ones for less than $10. Unroll it and you have all your tools.
|
Re: What do you carry with you? When we are on a long trip, we are usually outside phone range so I have to expect that if the car stops, I am the one who will have to get it going. I carry a set of tools (spanners, screw drivers, pliers etc,, jack and handle. There is a distributor and carburettor (never have needed either), some electrical wire, fan belt and test light. A spare tube (from when we couldn't get a decent one) is always there and a stick of Kneedit (an epoxy putty).
Because a repair might take a while, we have a toilet roll, food and water. We have had to make some what I think are clever improvisations but we've always gotten home. IMO, the best thing to take is the gap between your ears filled with knowledge about your car. |

Yes things can happen, but they can happen on a modern also. I'm certainly not going to let it spoil my fun. That said, I do carry a small tool box, Halotron fire extinguisher and a first aid kit 'just in case'. |
Re: What do you carry with you? Fan belt? Carburetor? Ok now how many of you have ever needed either one. I carry a screwdriver.
|
Re: What do you carry with you? Quote:
The belt, was after replacing the fan belt as part of "good maintenance". Did it while I had the radiator off, why not, I was there. Threw the take off under the seat. The new one separated about 30 miles from home, ( about a month old, maybe a hundred miles on it.) Put the take off back on and drove home. Sent from my E6810 using Tapatalk |

Re: What do you carry with you? I did notice all that and no fan belt.
|
Re: What do you carry with you? Bob needs to add a couple of fuses and or circuit breakers, fire extinguisher, first aide kit and a fan belt. Maybe a trailer hitch and trailer... to tow the spare Model A.:rolleyes:

Re: What do you carry with you? When on a trip with other As, sure would be happy if I broke down and someone like Bob was with. More fun to quick fix and be on my way instead of ending my day waiting for a tow truck.

Re: What do you carry with you? Bob is definitely the guy we all want to be cruising with us. He should eat free at all the stops.

Re: What do you carry with you? The usual plus a bottle of aspirins, a few nitro tablets and a wire cutters.
The jack, spare tire, tool bag should go without mention. A roll of paper towels can be handy too. |
Re: What do you carry with you? The usual plus a bottle of aspirins, a few nitro tablets and a wire cutters.
The jack, spare tire, tool bag should go without mention. A roll of paper towels, as already suggested, can de handy. Did anybody mention dry hand cleaner? |
Re: What do you carry with you? I should have a tire pump and fan belt, but i can't find a tire pump anywhere. And anyone under 50 seems to be "What's a V belt?".
I do tend to carry a tiny bottle of oil. Swiss army knife, screwdriver or 2. adjustable spanner. And lately i've been reminded of the value of a packet of chewing gum. Can patch all sorts of leaks with that. Also, a candle and piece of soap. Amazing what you can lube or patch with those. A stick that you can carve threads into with a pocket knife is handy if you lose a sump plug too. Quote:

Re: What do you carry with you? Bob made a nice post, but I'm curious, I see masking tape in the bag but not on the list? Also, where's the head gasket? I didn't see it on the list or in the picture?
Something I try to do, is carry proven ignition parts. As in not buying new ones for the road kit. I'll do a tune up when the car is running fine, polish the points, and carry those. Nothing more aggravating than defective new parts. Except digging through all the junk I carry trying to find said parts. Anybody carry road flares? Or reflectors? Sent from my E6810 using Tapatalk |
