Across the desert in the snow 570 mile road trip with one of my grandsons and his dad in Old Henry to Wendover Utah then 122 miles straight north on dirt road through Lucin and Grouse Creek Utah then Oakley to Burley Idaho for the night. Then to City of Rocks National Reserve the next day before heading home on the "back roads". This one a flat tire on the freeway. There's a quick shot in the video of your open glove compartment with two modern gauges. Could you tell us what they are? I'm also interested if you have an overdrive or what the rear end ratio is in Old Henry? He seems to go along at speed pretty well. Thanks. |

What better way to enjoy our hobby than to share the joy of it with others. We all need to remember to take time to "put away the polish" and drive these vehicles we have invested so much of ourselves in. |

Re: Across the desert in the snow Spent some time at Wendover on our last trip west to east. Did you see Wendover Army Air Base while there? The base has one or two commuter flights a day and the Feds have built chain link fence around a lot of the old buildings in the name of "security" It's still mostly in desert weathered state, but the locals are "fixing it up"
It's losing its WW2 patina fast. Your pictures are great. We have a lovely country. John |

Re: Across the desert in the snow Just came in from shoveling, enjoyed the ride. I put my truck up for the winter, have over 300 miles on it this summer. With everybody working or off to college, I don't have many drivers. I think that the worst part of poor eyesight.

Re: Across the desert in the snow When the word "driver" is used this car takes the cake. I'm impressed.
After the war my father had a one hundred dollar deposit on a new Ford. The dealer advised him that he was on a one year or so waiting list. So, needind a car Dad bought a 39 DeSoto from a relative. We had that car for years and drove it all over the western states. Of course that car wasn't that old at the time either. My hat is off to Old Henry. |

Do you experience any anxiety with respect to the dependability of 'Old Henry' when you take these extended trips out into the wilderness? Do you prepare yourself mentally? I find myself to be ill at ease on long trips into the boonies when driving my old cars - takes some of the enjoyment away when 'white-knuckling' it down the road. I don't experience this when driving my newer cars.... |

On this trip, other than the flat tire at the end, all I had was the tail lights go out which I'm working on today. Just found the wire corroded through (note: I still have my 69 year old wiring) and will fix that and will be good to go more and more. P.S. My overwhelming anxiety comes from thinking about rebuilding an engine. I wouldn't even consider it whereas so many can do it almost with their eyes closed. Again, because of their vast experience doing it. |

Do you have your heater hot water flow accessible from the driving compartment? If so, could you describe or show how you accomplished that? Mine is the stock valve on the right side head and, in my case, either too closed or too open for the conditions. Thanks. |

If I find it I'll post it.
