Good evening folks.

Been on here reading for a few hours. Very nice forum you have here. A lot of very knowledgeable people here. Glad I found it.

My Wife, unfortunately, has recently inherited a nice '28 A "Special Coupe"

Her Dad had been restoring it. And her brother has it running.

We are going to continue the restoration of this vehicle.

We are excited to have this car.

You folks will be hearing from me a lot, if you can handle it!!! :)

Here is a picture we took just before a parade last year. First time it was on the road since I don't know when.

Her Father also has been restoring:
1919 Model T (Not sure of style)
1926 Model T Roadster
1928 Model A pickup

Thanks for being here.

Thanks, looking forward to having the car here. We have already started looking at original colors. The Coupe is painted three different lower body colors. So, when we get it here, we will try to determine a few things. Like original color, build date for motor and body.

So, this is going to be fun!

It looks like a good starting point. I'd drive it as is before I started tearing it apart. Get all the mechanicals in shape & enjoy it. Be sure to check the drivers side of fuel tank/firewall about a inch above for the fuel tank date code if one was stamped there.

It is never good news when someone inherits anything.

With condolences said, we are here to help and as a group there is nothing we cannot handle!

My advise is always try to find a club to join.

For a small fee you get knowledge, assistance, and the use of speciality tools right there at your car!

Re: New to Ford Barn, '28 A "Special Coupe" inherited.

To both, Mike V. Florida and Racur96.

Thank you for your input. The Family Memorial, Mom passed a little over a year ago, and Dad passed on Sunday, we are going to have all the cars in a parade in Miles City Montana in May. They will be riding with us. For a couple that reached a month or two short of 60 years of marriage. we will be honored, and so will they.

After seeing the projects I have seen here on the Ford Barn, and the years spent on those, we are looking forward to being involved with which ever club we join.

We are already talking about how to travel with a '28 when we go see the country 3 years from now.

As for my Wife and I, we live on projects. This will be a project that will, more than likely, define what we do in retirement. (Which isn't very far away)

Welcome aboard! I too have a 28 special and it's still my favorite ride. My wife and I have been all over with it and find it quite comfy and reliable. Do a few parades if you will, to show her off but by all means, keep those tires turning toward new adventures. The Model A's love to run in exchange for fun!

Sean, Welcome aboard, we are pretty new as well.

It is such a blast owning an A, and the folks here area huge help. We too will be retiring soon, and moving to Bend, so you have one not too far destination already......... There has got to be some sort of tour up the Gorge for A's as well.

Welcome aboard and you have come to the right place ! There is nothing about your A that these people can't answer ! A few grumps but you will soon learn who they are and ignore them like everyone else !
I agree with the suggestion to enjoy it first the way it is !
Just remember it does not have tobe perfect to have fun !

Well, it is a small world. We will also be retiring in Bend!

We can't wait to get back there, and Bend will be a great place to have an A to drive around in.

We will be seeing you around for sure!

The Northwest Regional Round Up is what you are looking for on the web. It can be found from the MAFCA site or either Volcano A's (I think that is the Vancouver site) or the Beaver chapter websites. I know there is a Bend chapter as well-I think. And to top it off, Bill Barlow rebuilds engines in Bend and does a great job!

Mike

p.s. Welcome to the club

Thanks!!! That looks like fun.

Seeing all the pictures makes me home sick!!!

Well, I will be seeing what the car needs to make it road worthy for a trip over.

Will need to do more digging on the local groups in my current area.

Welcome. I encourage you to join at least one local club. In Vancouver it's the Volcano A's (volcanoas.net/). In Portland it's the Beaver Chapter of MAFCA (http://beaverchapter.shutterfly.com) or (http://www.beaverchapter.com/). When you get to Bend, you'll want to look up the High Desert A's. Also join one of the national clubs. There is a wealth of fun, information, advice and help in participation in these organizations.

Once I get out to where the car is, I will take a bunch of photos and start a new thread. The subject will be, what is still missing from the car. :)

Welcome aboard Sean, I put my 29 Special coupe together in 1981 and aside from a few startup problems back then it's been very reliable and comfy since. The Special coupe was only made for 1 year, from mid 28 to mid 29 and the body style is my favorite. Good luck and yours looks nice.

Welcome, Sean !

You have a very knowledgeable "neighbor" up in Vancouver, B.C. - "Farrell in Vancouver", who has restored a Special Coupe, and is a great wealth of info !

I have a '28 Special Coupe, myself, rescued from a field (by someone else) and made into a reliable driver. It's my first A and has been a great deal of fun!

Special Coupes are somewhat rare... don't see many around.

Keep us posted !

Sorry to hear about your father in law. I inherited my Model A from my grandfather in Montana near Havre and now live north of you in Tacoma. I drove through Miles City frequently as I'm from Bozeman and attended college, grad school and flight instructed in Grand Forks, ND for seven years. I have learned a lot and accomplished a lot with my car since joining and bringing my car out here a year and a half ago. Its a shame my grandfather was never able to finish getting the car mechanically in order as I have and I'm sure he'd be proud to see what I have done but I'm sure he's riding with me when I'm out having fun with it and I think about him all the time when I'm driving it. I'm sure you'll get that kind of enjoyment out of it also and its great to keep them in the family. I'm hoping to make it out to Bend Oregon this year too so I hope to see you there!

Hey Aaron, found your photos in the post a picture of your car thread. Nice pics and a great memory of your Grandfather.

Hopefully we can meet up there. If not, maybe a meet and greet here in Vancouver!

Well, it's road trip time. Headed out to get the '28.

Beautiful day for a drive. Actually left yesterday, now on second leg of trip this morning.

I think this trailer will suffice!

Thanks Fred.

Got out here and see the car again. It hasn't run since a year ago this week.

I see it needs a coil wire.

That is about all I could see at this point. The morning may bring new things.

So, where should I start for a coil wire? LOL!

By the way, I had Les Andrews' vol. 1 shipped out here when I ordered it. Thankfully it arrived before I did!

Hi Sean,

Is this the one you mean? It is the one that runs from the coil to the distributor.

http://www.brattons.com/product.asp?...=any&PT_ID=all

The above item is from Bratton's. But you could probably get it from Floyd's Model "A" Parts right there in Vancouver. Her phone number is 360-887-3346 and address is 29500 NW 31st, Ridgefield, WA 98642.

Good luck.

Thanks Fred. We are so excited about having this car. My wife is just in tears having one of his cars. He spent many years collecting and building these.

Once we get it home, there is a lot of things we are going to be doing and needing for this.
