About that brake slot. My '32 PU would bring on the brake light with the e -brake handle pulled and ratchet set! So that was the problem-a missing slotted rod end? Newc

The spring would lift the brake pedal, but not to the end of the slot. It would lift it until the pedal arm contacted the bumper pad underneath the floorboard.

Maybe, but the pedal clevis would still have to travel to the front end of the slot before the release rod starts to move forward. And if the clevis did not end up at the rear of the slot, what would be the point of having the slot in the first place? To create excess pedal travel? I doubt it.

It would be helpful to know the o.d. of the round portion of your rod with the slotted end as they are normally of a greater diameter than the rods used in the brake system.

The dia is .420 inches.
I do agree that the cross pin must touch the front of this slot to move the clutch. The rest of the slot does not seem to have much value as the springs should keep the pin to slot in the same position????
I think I used the original clevis on this same thread size I believe.

Folks,
The 32 rests. Roads are snowy and salty today! Syrup season has me in the normal headlock. Making a batch of syrup takes us most of the day when it runs. I am also making other maple confections for two upcoming events. Made 80 bottles of maple mustard and maple BBQ, plus canned up another 10 gallons of dark maple syrup too.

Ford folks,
We have been busy almost every day gathering sap and boiling off the water to make maple syrup.
John has been in the shop working on his 42. And continues to make progress each day. I have some pictures I will try to post on his thread also.
On the 32: I did look in the cab and saw the gas gauge was at 1/2 tank! So the seals on the ends of the small air line must be sealed. Now to get it out and run it some to see if the gage reads correctly! But at least it's not back at zero, so something is working better!

Ford folks,
The 32 may get some attention this weekend as a part of our maple event. We have an open house showcasing our sugar house. The event is free and is fairly well attended. We have had up too 400 visitors through our maple production facility to learn about how sugarmakers get the sap to the syrup!

On the 32 I started it and moved it outside for cleaning. It is still smoking more that I would like on start up. Seems to clear up once warm?? Any thoughts welcome.

Ford Folks,
On the 32 talked with Dave Renner on the B carb and the smoke at start up. He didn't feel it was the carb. He felt the rings had just not seated yet, needing more miles on the engine. I started it and let it warm up the smoke from the tail pipe clear up in a few minutes.

We are resting after the very busy Maple Taste and Tour weekend. We est 400 visitors carried off most of our maple products! We made maple sugar candy, had a maple stir, made maple popcorn, had sugar on snow ( jackwax) and showed how to make maple peanut butter. A lot of the items we just gave away as samples as a customer appreciation event.
All the family and friends that helped worked very hard to make it an enjoyable weekend!

Also the Sugar updates, as we help friends in an Upstate N.Y. sugar house .
Matter of fact next day and 1/2 we are getting a Boat Load of “ Sugar Snow”.
Whether people are painting a picture of Doom n Gloom.
Massive power outages. Who knows ?
We are concerned for a lot of Elderly neighbors that don’t have Generators.

One of my favorite memories from growing up in Massachusetts is boiling down maple syrup until it was really thick then drizzling a thin line of it on top of overnight fresh snow. Then quickly rolling up a short "rope" of cooled toffey-like maple sugar on the tines of a fork while it was still soft and plopping it into my mouth. I was even better if some of the fresh powder snow stuck to the maple sugar and made it into my mouth too. Thanks for re-kindling that memory from long ago.

Great shots of the maple syrup/sugar operation. Looks like a nice way to stay involved with family and friends and to celebrate the coming of spring! As for seating those rings it is important to work the truck pretty hard and lots of accelerating and deceleration. Idling too much at this point isn't the best, but I understand with salt on the roads you are limited to your driving. If that were my truck I wouldn't even get close to road salt. No way, no Day! On the way into town the road here passes 'Crescent Beach' and if the tide is high and wind from the South, seawater washes over the road. I will pull a Y turn and take the long way around no matter what. Road salt=death sentence. Keep up the good work, and I'm sure I speak for many here when I say that you two have done a great job of raising the next generations.
