Re: Thoughts on this Hobby
My brother got me into vintage vehicles. He had a 46 Sedan as a daily driver and I remember hanging out with him in the bedroom we shared, poring through Hemmings classifieds. My first car was a partially restored '39 Plymouth that I bought with my college fund, worked on and drove, and sold before I headed off to college in 1976. I've wanted to own a vintage vehicle ever since, but all my resources were committed elsewhere. About a year ago, I happened upon a 1933 Model B pickup that a friend's Dad had restored (along with several other Fords) before passing away about 12 years ago. The friend was looking to make room in the garage where several of his Dad's vehicles are stored and he made me a deal. I'm nearing retirement now and I have the time and some financial resources to get back into this and it has been good and bad. The adventure of researching and learning about the truck and fixing things here and there to get it humming has been great. But, the challenges can turn into all-consuming obsessions until I get it figured out. And I didn't grow up in the garage like some of my brothers, so there has been a little bumbling. But, the truck is a piece of historic art and engineering and I feel lucky to have stewardship over it for a while.
