I have never been very lucky selling anything. I might add that whenever I hear during a buying or selling a collector car process the words "Barrett-Jackson, and make a killing" intelectually the deal is just about over. Every time I hear that I wanna just say "hey, don't insult my intelligence", but never do.

You just have to read who you are dealing with.I pay almost no attention to the lowbawling guys. Some want to pay a little, and make a lot.For the most part the guys with little money, but a real need are pretty good. After a couple of months of having something for sale I get a barrage of the, you've had it for sale long enough,it's time to drop to our price guys.I always tell them,if I don't sell it in another year or two I'll think about dropping the price. Then you get the internet offers sight unseen. My friend at the junkyard gets a lot of them.He says, how can you make an offer sight unseen? You might look at it,really like it,and want to pay me more. That makes for a quiet pause on the phone.I've bought two Model A's sight unseen, after talking to the sellers, and the bad points of both were overdescribed by the sellers. Both were better than described.

Worried about chrome prices? You could always do what the did in the 80s - paint everything. Don't worry about cost a recent thing of using Rustoleum is catching on.

No luck involved. It is a skill set and takes a lot of effort to be good.............

For those who say the hobby is "expensive" they are right. The way to cut cost is to buy a car that has mostly been completed with maybe a few fun things to finish or fix.

Hobbies can be outrageously expensive, or can be enjoyed by frugal people as well. Folks with less free cash will need to approach a hobby and their activities differently than someone with more disposable money. Similarly, someone with a demanding job will approach a hobby differently than a retired guy. We all approach our hobbies as we personally can.

So ya wanna mostly restored car huh? Have I got your dream car here! New Schwalms eng. new "Drabs" paint. And New wood throughout! Lotsa good stuff throughout. Engine, Bored out, oversized valves, inserted bearings, lightened fly Wheel, HC head, B manifold and carb. $6000 worth! Rebuilt rear. Needs wiring and upholstery and top kit. I have dumped a lot of preinflation dollars into this and Id like to get most of it back. This doesn't count my time So I'm asking $9500. The car can be seen at "My A" in the photo gallery.

Like most hobbies it's only expensive if you keep track of the costs. Doing all the work myself, buying what used parts i could, our Free 28 Tudor has cost me $23k over the last 3 years. Will be a few grand more if this old engine ever needs rebuilt.
