My 28 sport coupe is named Gracie after my wife's dear sweet mom, the cabriolet is called Tink, my friends refer to it as my Tinkerbell car. It has also been referred to as my Magoo mobile. My friends don't understand my obsession. Lol

My folks gave me a 1930 fordor for graduation from high school, on the gas tank next to the instrument panel was painted "HECTOR". I have no idea who he was.

Re: Model A car names

The 1931 is named "Patrick" for its previous owner Patrick Hilton of Marrietta, GA who passed and his wife sold the car. Never met Patrick but somehow his name belongs on this car.

My wife named the 1930 restoration car "Duke" for our late friend Major Duke Fullerton who survived the Bataan Death march and so much more as a POW. May he rest in Peace.

Well, the Prius is called Wall-E, the Subaru Forester is called Dorothy, but curiously, the Model A is called "The Model A" and the '65 Mustang is called "the Mustang" No idea why.

My "A" is called "Sallyrose" by me from Emmylou Harris's "Ballad of Sallyrose" . My wife doesn't like the name because we used it for a sailboat we once lived on for 5 yrs and she thought people thought she was Sallyrose. Bill G

Re: Model A car names

My daughter names our cars for the most part, some she refuses to name:

26 T Touring - Bessie, named by my Dad after his favorite Aunt
29 Roadster - just the Roadster
30 Pickup - just the Pickup
30 AA - just the big truck
30 Town Sedan - Ruby, after the red jewels in the headlight eyelids
31 Woody - Woody, what else
42 Tudor - Eleanor, just seemed to fit
42 Jeep - Sarge, from the movie Cars
43 WLA - Indie, after Indiana Jones
89 TC - Redwing, by her previous owner, my step-mother, no idea why

My 31 pick up (now in transition to become a Huckster) was named by the previous owner when he was about 14. "Walter" I'm told just fit the truck and it's personality. Walter is a member of my family and all know who he is.

Chief, my Dad, only, ever, named 1 of his cars, "HEZZIE", a NEW '52 Chev. P.U. "Maybe" after Hezzie, the Kazoo player in the Spike Jones Band?? Cindy, my Daughter, thinks car names are DUMB! She calls me, ECCENTRIC, & the Dog agrees.
Years back, when personalized plates were a BIG DEAL, some were REALLY FUNNY!

This is, of course, Thelma. Named after my great aunt Thelma and my mother (her middle name was Thelma).

Re: Model A car names

When I purchased my 1928 Leatherback it came with all the paperwork that had accumulated over the last 60 years or so. In amongst this I found that the guy who owned it for 50 years up until till he passed away 10 years ago refered to it as "the Aristocrat". Has anyone heard a Model A referred to as this before? I was curious if this was a name he thought up or just a general term for a Model A.

From the beginning of my project I dubbed it "Buntline Special". The name is written in gold just above the side hinge of the hood.
