If we can go by the witness marks on my S/S pipe from the clamp, it "grow" about 3/16" from cold to hot.

Mine just started vibrating, once again. I am using the clamp that came with the S/S muffler.

Just use the insulated clamp that Aries makes. No rattle and slides easily.

Did something similar on my dads A. I made a loop out of insertion rubber and used a pipe clamp with a tab. I works until we can get an aries and set it up with the original clamp.

I am, after a month or two the "insulation" wears out and it starts rattling again.

I fully agree with Keith True's post- don't clamp it up until it fits well. Bending a Model A muffler pipe can be tough for some-but it can be done. I personally don't use the stainless system. The rear clamp I bought 15 years ago came with a strip of heat-proof material similar to asbestos. It's still there and doing it's job. My rear clamp is just slightly loose-no rattles but I feel it has enough slack to move with expansion. I don't think I would use rubber on the tail pipe-It gets hot enough to burn it up.
