Re: Dash light

The early type base wasn't really made to be taken apart since a little metal bent tab has to be straitened to disassemble. If the tab breaks off then the housing is done. The outer cover was made to be removable for bulb replacement.

Find an old GE miniature bulb catalog and you can get all the numbers for replacements of same design bulbs. Edison Mazda/GE designed all the most common bulbs and continued to manufacture them for years. Each design bulb has a reference code so a person can tell whether it fits or not. They came in various voltages and candle powers

One may or may not be able to solder the broken tab back on, I've soldered the broken tabs on the horn button retainer.

I think I'd try finding a way to eliminate the tab first. If it can be disassembled then it would be easier to maintain it.

on another note within this thread, I need to replace my entire lamp assembly. The normal suppliers state Out of Stock, any source for a replacement?

Re: Dash light

Recently, I was lucky enough to find a repairable used one on flea-pay. I used a reproduction socket pigtail for a 28/29 headlamp to replace the damaged pig tail. The new reproductions have been out of stock for a long time with no guarantee of further replacements.

Cape, sorry, I can't remember that far back. According to my records I installed it in December of 2014.

If I get out to the car today I will check. I don't know if it will help you tho. My car is 12v.

If it helps at all, the dash light takes the same bulb as the cowl and dome lights.

Re: Dash light

Cape Codder, I believe this is the LED I used in my dash light. https://www.superbrightleds.com/led-...volts-12V~ACDC

I see it comes in 6v but only available in the 32° version. I think it should work fine, they are pretty bright.

I have the 12v, warm white, 90° version in my '30 Town Sedan.

Y-Blockhead - Thanks for the Info for the LED Bulb! Has to be better than what ORIGINAL gives me.

Re: Dash light

I put an amber LED in my coupe, it was perfect, Plenty of light without being too bright and had kind of a natural color. It was a bulb from my cowl lights.

It did burn out and I haven't replaced it though.

6V car.

Re: Dash light

If I wasn't a "purist", I'd add a separate switch for the dash light. Maybe just a small toggle on the bottom of the dash. Has anyone done that before? Seems to be a great fix to alleviate any hot covers and avoids the reliance on the spring to pop in and out.
