Re: New Car- New Member- LOTS of questions!

One more thing to consider is the rear end ratio. Since the car appears to have been well built for driving, it may already have a 3:78 or lower gear. You can cruise along at 55 or so with a 3:78. I prefer the columbia two speed which gives you a gear for traffic and a gear for the highway. It would be interesting to know which block you have. Original 34 blocks had poured mains instead of insert bearings. Most folks that intend to drive a lot use 36 LB blocks which IMHO is a little better block than the 34. The later block could have a vent on the driver side of the oil pan up front. From the outside 34 and 36 blocks appear the same.

Hmmm, Kelsey Hayes wires; nice! Interesting looking gas cap, can you please put up a close up photo of it?

The spare looks like a 16" Kelsey. The wheels on the ground look like straight ol' 17s. DD

The tires say 6.0 x 16

I ordered 4 16s I hope they fit- I wonder if I値l need tubes?

Here is the gas cap

Re: New Car- New Member- LOTS of questions!

In the notes I got with the car it says...

1936 transmission installed

354 gear in rear end

It also says greyhound and J strap included... which both are missing. I ordered a hound from digger and I知 sure I値l find a j strap somewhere

As for the spare it appears an old whitewall is installed in reverse(cracked whitewall in back)

Should I just leave it- I was thinking of swapping out one of the tires I知 about to replace... I知 afraid taking it off I値l damage it.

I知 assuming if I get a flat I値l tow it

Thoughts?

For driveability I would go with a radial set of tyres and a good tyre fitted at the spare.
In my opion better handling and driving with radials fitted, i fit tubes with mine.

Put a decent tire on the spare just in case your cell phone does not work in an area where you are stranded. Don't forget a jack and lug wrench.

It also may be interesting to check the spare.
Early white walls were on both sides of the tire.

Welcome to the Fordbarn. That's a very nice looking '34 cabriolet. I don't think you got a lemon, and have no idea if you got a steal, but it definitely will be a beautiful driver that will get a lot of attention from admirers.
