Because I read the news, along with some basic tools and some extra parts.

Don't leave home without it.........

I really think the canvas tool roll is the berries. Bucket boss has the expensive ones, but there are good ones for less than $10. Unroll it and you have all your tools.

Re: What do you carry with you?

When we are on a long trip, we are usually outside phone range so I have to expect that if the car stops, I am the one who will have to get it going. I carry a set of tools (spanners, screw drivers, pliers etc,, jack and handle. There is a distributor and carburettor (never have needed either), some electrical wire, fan belt and test light. A spare tube (from when we couldn't get a decent one) is always there and a stick of Kneedit (an epoxy putty).
Because a repair might take a while, we have a toilet roll, food and water. We have had to make some what I think are clever improvisations but we've always gotten home. IMO, the best thing to take is the gap between your ears filled with knowledge about your car.

IMO, there is no reason to have to "contemplate a breakdown every time you start" a well maintained Model A. I go over my model A after a outing and check it again before the next.

Yes things can happen, but they can happen on a modern also. I'm certainly not going to let it spoil my fun.

That said, I do carry a small tool box, Halotron fire extinguisher and a first aid kit 'just in case'.

Fan belt? Carburetor? Ok now how many of you have ever needed either one. I carry a screwdriver.

Yes. Not a complete carb but parts of the kit. After apparently getting bad gas, and having the carb apart 3 times coming home.

The belt, was after replacing the fan belt as part of "good maintenance". Did it while I had the radiator off, why not, I was there. Threw the take off under the seat. The new one separated about 30 miles from home, ( about a month old, maybe a hundred miles on it.) Put the take off back on and drove home.

I think Bob is being facetious. Looking at his list, several of his items are duplicates or combined with another item. :p:p

I did notice all that and no fan belt.

Re: What do you carry with you?

Bob needs to add a couple of fuses and or circuit breakers, fire extinguisher, first aide kit and a fan belt. Maybe a trailer hitch and trailer... to tow the spare Model A.:rolleyes:

When on a trip with other As, sure would be happy if I broke down and someone like Bob was with. More fun to quick fix and be on my way instead of ending my day waiting for a tow truck.

Bob is definitely the guy we all want to be cruising with us. He should eat free at all the stops.

The usual plus a bottle of aspirins, a few nitro tablets and a wire cutters.
The jack, spare tire, tool bag should go without mention.
A roll of paper towels can be handy too.

Did anybody mention dry hand cleaner?

Re: What do you carry with you?

I should have a tire pump and fan belt, but i can't find a tire pump anywhere. And anyone under 50 seems to be "What's a V belt?".

I do tend to carry a tiny bottle of oil. Swiss army knife, screwdriver or 2. adjustable spanner. And lately i've been reminded of the value of a packet of chewing gum. Can patch all sorts of leaks with that.
Also, a candle and piece of soap. Amazing what you can lube or patch with those. A stick that you can carve threads into with a pocket knife is handy if you lose a sump plug too.

I'm really curious how bad things are that you need that. A 410 make sense for rabid raccoons but wtf?

This is not to be underestimated. If more people did this (regardless of what brand car they drive), there'd be a lot less break downs in the first place.

Re: What do you carry with you?

Bob made a nice post, but I'm curious, I see masking tape in the bag but not on the list? Also, where's the head gasket? I didn't see it on the list or in the picture?

Something I try to do, is carry proven ignition parts. As in not buying new ones for the road kit. I'll do a tune up when the car is running fine, polish the points, and carry those. Nothing more aggravating than defective new parts. Except digging through all the junk I carry trying to find said parts.

Anybody carry road flares? Or reflectors?
