Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? The motor does not turn, it's stuck, but that is easy to fix.

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? Time to sell is when someone wants to buy

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? The Model A is designed to run 60-65 mph all day long. Sorry, I couldn't resist. [smiley face]

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? So many; where to start? How about: "Check the timing first thing if it won't start". (Tell me, how does the timing suddenly get so far off that it won't even start??) Or, a common one: "You need that there zinc additive"!! Or: "You have to use non-detergent oil"!! Next: "You have to pull the car to start a freshly rebuilt engine"! (Like that poor mis-led guy on Haggerty.)

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? Distilled water with rust inhibitor absolutely prevents all cooling system rust (does slow it down substantially). The Model A requires very little to no maintenance/upkeep.

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? The motor is getting hot because the water is circulating too fast. It's not getting enough time in the radiator to cool down.

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? Synchro, yes that last one is a beauty! Many people on lots of forums believe it.

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? "It's just an old car, it won't matter" ---from machine shop that ground crankshaft with flywheel flange .008 off center, the next machine shop got it within .005, ---their reply-- it's just an old car---

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? Need to dump a 350 V8 in that A. Need to dump a 350 V8 in that T. Need to dump a 350 V8 in that F1. And so it goes. Why I don't even have a V8 in my F150 Eco-boost.
I find that any stock car that I have from 1975 on down, people say you got to put a V8 in it with an automatic transmission. That way you can make it more drive-able. REALLY? Tom L. |
Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? The Pertronix flame thrower coil won't help your model A
|
Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? A person should run fifty fifty antifreeze in their model A in the summer .

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? Install 3.27 gears ,it will be easier on your engine and make it go faster

Re: What's the most absurb advice you've received in the old car hobby? "Nine out of ten Model A rear ends are good"......
Yup, missing two ring gear teeth and the pinion gear retaining nut was completely destroyed from the drive shaft pounding back & forth.....but it did run ! |

Im working on a 65 mustang. making a hot rod out of that. just to keep my hands off the A. I did a little go fast mods on my 78 k 10 and quickly realized that will get louder but wont get much faster. kept the cam and heads ditched the carb and intake back to original for better starting. A bunch of people who at a glance appear to make bad decisions have told me the A needs a treefiddy. People who sit on a mountain of good decisions say keep it OE. |

I don't know about advice, but I like telling people I still have the original black and white rear view mirror.
You'd be surprised how many people believe it. |
