Sanding, painting and varnishing on the woodie/pickup. That is my 15 year old granddaughter. She is the official painter this summer. One more coat of varnish to go. All those rags and blankets are her way to mask. silly kid. ken

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today got my order in from bert's they shipped me two different rev, idler gear bushings that were different size. they fix the mistake by shipping me not one but to new bushings. So now I have 3 rev. idler gear bushings. There great people.

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today Messing around with a mandrel to enlarge the bore of a babbitted rod using TimeSaver. The goal is to take a 0.030 under rod to 0.025 under for use on a 0.020 under crankpin that got scuffed up and was taken down to 0.025 under. We'll see how it goes.

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today Finally replaced all the tires on the '30 Cabbie with new Goodyears.
Changed the oil in the engine and rearend. Odometer just turned 70,000 miles. Seemed like a good time to do some maintenance Good day in the shop! Dick |
Re: What did you do working on you Model A today I installed a "Steering Housing End Plate with Tube" http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/st...sing-end-plate to (hopefully) stop the steering box oil from filling up my light switch. :p:p That turned out to be a fun job. Somewhere in the past, someone installed a freeze plug in the end of the steering box to prevent it from leaking. Then they proceeded to drill a hole in the freeze plug for the horn rod to pass thru, defeating the purpose of the freeze plug... :rolleyes::rolleyes: I had to remove the drivers side engine pan so I could use my slide hammer to remove the freeze plug.
Also while I had the engine pans out and was under the car I tapped the frame where the engine pans mount to make it a one man job to R&R them next time. All back together and Hot Damn, no leak (so far). |

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today Worked the screen out of the fuel tank and unmoored the cork from the sludgy bottom,so now I have a fuel gauge...and can use the solvent sprayer to clean the tank once i drain it.Drained the cooling system to see why it overheats..timing dead on,no bubbles in the water when running but an ominous sign hit me in the face the last 'block go round'..no windshield frame and when the repop quail 1/4 turn radiator cap popped open it misted me with hot water...and grass..poked around the baffle and found more grass wedged in the top tank...hoping a good backflush will cure my issue..

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today I vacuumed the bugs out of the radiator ,with the help of a tooth pick.
Then got under to see if I have any oil leaks. ,no real leaks just a small drop, found on the floor sometime. Next cleaned front window (bugs) and put on rainex. Next opened a beer lite up a cigar sat on a chair and looked at the car. THE END Fred |
Re: What did you do working on you Model A today 180A Cleaned bolts for transmission tower, mounted and bolted same, checked for operation and adjusted clutch. Mounted top irons of rolling frame to begin disassembly and repair.
150B Continued cleaning cowl for patches and repairs. |
Re: What did you do working on you Model A today Yesterday I pulled the engine out of a 30 Tudor to check and reset the clearances on the rods and mains. Finished it up tonight. Check and set the valve clearances tomorrow.

I bought a non-running 1930 Phaeton last week and brought it back to life today. Runs beautifully. So much fun recommissioning a car!!

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today Today I disassembled the transmission tower (after building a spring keeper removal tool) and continued with the carb overhaul. Although the speedometer shows about 5000 miles, judging by the wear on the shift lever and the forks, I'm thinking that's not quite accurate.
It's a 31 Deluxe Roadster. |

leak. Checked it out and suspect float, even though new not good value seat , fixed- now to test . |

Re: What did you do working on you Model A today I took the hood and radiator off my coupe. I found tiny cracks at the corners of the tabs where the center hinge tube goes through. There were several so I flattened them out and MIGged and ground them. I'm going to paint the coupe so everybody get ready for some paint and body work questions.
