Re: Alternator Generator conversion

I don't have experience witn electric trailer brakes. My guess is that it probably would work ok. I don't see that it would be a constant draw. My guess is , it would only draw current when the brake was applied and you wouldn't be riding the brakes for any period of time. You may show a momentary discharge when the brakes were applied but it would take a good while before the charge in the battery would drop enough to cause any problem .

This is not an alternator inside, it is a billet aluminum housing that is specifically made to be an alternator.

John, which unit are you referring to that will be reported on in the next Model A Times?? Thanks

Here are some pictures of the 12V Powermaster Model A alternator. They also make a 6V version.

Thanks to John LaVoy for telling me about these alternators. Be sure to check out a full review in an upcoming issue of the Model A Times.

Re: Alternator Generator conversion

A later fan cooled generator can give you 35 amps and look more correct than an alternator. Mid 50's through early 60's will get you a variety of 12 volt 35 amp generators.
You may have to hunt for a 5/8" wide v belt generator, or change pulleys.
