The first diagnostic of any clutch-transmission problem is the depress the clutch fully, and sloooooly move the shifter into 1st gear. If there is interference, ie, some sort of grinding, first check your clutch adjustment at the turnbuckle, then, if there are any cracks, etc on the lever. Then move on to the suggestions above. There is always a tendancy to make things more complicated than they need to be. Sometimes they are complicated, but eliminate the simple first. Most problems are simple. If you are new, do not panic, get advice here or elsewhere.
