Thanks Bill for the quick shipping and taking the time out of your busy schedule to hook us all up, they are a work of art..

One of these has Dads name on it along with a case of jet fuel coffee;) he is easy to buy for:cool:

Oh and the lifetime guarantee on the capsules and sockets are a super bonus:eek::D

Mine just arrived today, and yes the first thing I noticed was the weight. The labeling is not some simple scratching either, deep and clearly read.

VERY HAPPY Thanks again for the effort you put into this!!!

Mike,

I appreciate the comment, but I think what everybody is really going to want to know is, was it worth the wait, and will it be worth the wait for the rest of the guys who's sockets I am working on?

Glad you are happy with the socket/s Mike.

Bill

And a couple questions for Mitch.

Were you working on an original gav housing or a repro?

And how was the fit?

I am asking because the two are different, and a lot of thought and experimentation was put into the final design and machining of the socket to allow it to fit properly on both, when they are obviously different.

I have a trick to making these which no one will ever figure out in order to facilitate for the difference, however, it also is what makes these sockets difficult to make and creates a situation where they have to be made one off, individually fitted, and not mass produced.

Re: carburetor 13/32 deep well socket

Hats off to you haag1332 and Son. I would also like 2 sockets. My email is [email protected]. I can pay by check or paypal. As long as your son is in to tackling sockets, some years back I cut off several 1/4 inch short extensions, made some electrodes and edm'ed some sockets which fit the Trico wiper motor screws on the covers. I just have one socket left for myself and have given the others away. I have never seen a socket for the screws unless Trico made and sold them. I have seen Trico tool kits for rebuilding the motors, but no sockets. Nice job on pursuing and filling a much needed tool.

Re: carburetor 13/32 deep well socket

Kr500,

Just to clear something up, haag1332 is the son who is making the sockets, lol, Bill Jr. guess I better start signing things that way on hear. The old bill is fingers or something on here, and is the person responsible for getting me into this mess when he asked me if I could make him a socket for the gav valve.

I have added you to the list of interested people, but I am not confirming any new orders at this point. I have decided that I will make a second run for a number of reasons, and will confirm all the new people interested once I supply everyone from the first batch I am working on which is almost 150.

Hope all is well, and thank you for your interest.

Bill Jr.

Re: carburetor 13/32 deep well socket

My socket arrived yesterday.
I just sent Bill this email:

"Bill,

an awesome job by any definition!

Socket arrived today, and it is a thing of beauty, I truly appreciate the skill and effort that went into making this happen."

When you get yours you will NOT be sorry! Worth the wait.
Regards

Hi Bill
I was working with original Gav's, just removing them from the carbs I have to rebuild. The fit was tight with no slop at all so I can't answer right now about the repo fit. I am not a tool and die / machine man but I have a thought of what your secret design maybe for it to hold the repo's also, but I won't tell anyone so don't worry ...:cool:
Again thanks so much and I am looking forward to everyone else receiving their sockets.

Re: carburetor 13/32 deep well socket

I thought the second size used was a common size that would be in every deep socket set.
It's been a long time since I worked on one, but 7/16" seems to ring a bell.

Nice to see you are thinking about your dad, and I hope he appreciates it as much as my dad did when he got the first prototype, which of course started this whole mess I have gotten involved with, lol.

So Bill (haag1332) how does this work? Do you send a email/PM when you have my socket ready to be paid for?

I haven't received anything since your last PM from 2/2015. Just getting anxious I guess.

Re: carburetor 13/32 deep well socket

Yblockhead and montanafordman, read back to post 291 where I tried to explain some things. Your sockets are not done just yet, but close. Not sure where you guys are on the list right at the moment, but can look it up and let you know if you email me or what have you.

Tom, my understanding is the 7/16 is for a different year or whatever, but the original and repro for whatever years is 13/32. One of the more knowledgeable guys on here needs to re explain this for everyone's edification. Could someone please do this to clear this all up again, lol.

Re: carburetor 13/32 deep well socket

forever, you say in years past 7/16. Do they still make repro 7/16 and were they ever standard on certain carbs or years?

I have had this explained to me at length before, and should have written it all down, because I am curious myself. And another question, were the 13/32 gav's ever used on any other carbs besides the zenith?

Just curious, not trying to screw up this thread. If you or someone posts a complete explanation of this at some point, I am going to print it and hang it here in the shop so I can refer to it from time to time, lol.

Steve Pargeter in his excellent book on the Model A Zenith Carburetor says they were all originally 13/32.
